Firing the shutter

Some time ago I used the option to fire the shutter several times after pressing the release just once.
(There, I can't even explain, clearly, what I want to say!)
Now I can't remember how to do it, or what the process is called. Even though I have looked everywhere.
Can anyone help?

Do you mean holding the shutter button and taking several shots or Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB) and the camera doing 3 or 5 frames from 1 press?

I've assumed you're refering to the Canon 70D in your profile, sorry for the web link name, it was the first that google through up :)

Continuous High or Low - usually a CH or CL mode/button somwhere on the camera

Press the 'DRIVE' button in front of the top screen and it'll give you multiple options from one shot through to timed shot. See Gavs link above to see more.

Sounds more like you are talking about a intervalometer mode.

Hi everyone.
Absorbed all your advice, and know what I'm doing now!
Many thanks, from a very elderly beginner.
