right i need to get my partners son out and from his x box ggrrrr he enjoys nature programs so i thought if i got him a camera i could get him out and about so i,m wondering do i go digital or film digital ok he can see what he shoots but film has to work at it more he also suffers from ADHD so his attention is very short all comments welcome :bonk:

If he has a short attention span then a film camera wouldn't be a good idea in my opinion. However to see the almost limitless photos he just shot in the back of a digital camera would maybe inspire him to get out taking more photos. There is also the cost of buying and developing film to consider, and the long wait for the photos to be developed.

I have a grandson that suffers with ADHD and he can concentrate on the routine for setting my film SLR for about 8 frames - after that he starts to miss out steps (not focusing/not checking the metering/etc).

We bought him a P&S for Xmas last year and he's now a committed shutter bug :) He also often uses my D40 and gets really good results in A or P modes so he's getting one this Xmas :)

I would definately recommend you go digital. Aside from anything else the youff of today are into immediate gratification not having to wait a week to see the results

+1 for digital. If he gets into it and actually wants to learn how to take better photos then it's useful to see immediately the effects of changing the settings.

perhaps a Nikon D3000, due to the fact that its guide mode is meant to be quite good?

350d's are very cheap these day's. But I love my 500d and find it's menu very simple. As an example to set ISO you press the ISO button on top.

thanks for all comments think i will get him a digital but nothing major just yet also (bristolian) steve where abouts in bristol are you as i,m in kingswood most of the wk ?

Mark, I live in Patchway - not far from The Mall - but am rarely at home during the day (except at weekends). Where you from in Wales? Most of my family are from the Ebbw Valley and I visit every couple of weeks, or so.
