First time with extension tubes.

I can't afford a proper macro lens at the moment so bought some extension tubes recently. Eventually got a chance to try them out today when this little fella alighted on the kitchen floor:

 
It looks terrifying. I'm not too keen on the DoF though, I guess that's one of the drawbacks with using extension tubes, or am I mistaken? I've been reading up on them today but haven't quite grasped the concept of how they work. :D
 
Cheers. It's the Kenko tubes, all three for this shot with an EF 50mm mkII :)

In fact that's an excellent combo giving great sharpness at a reasonable price (especially if you buy S/H on here).

Not just with extension tubes - all macro shots have very little DOF - in most cases just a few millimetres.

But they really are the best way to increase the power of a lens - even a Macro lens - as this picture of a wasp shows:

That was taken with the Canon 100mm Macro and Kenko extension tubes.
