Hi I recently bought a 52mm wide angle fish eye lens off eBay (just seeing what the fish eye comes out as before I buy a bigger and better lens), thing is how do I attach it to my camera? I have a Sony DSLR-A200

Looks like the lens has a internal thread

Hi Danielle, can you post a link to the item?

Its not a lens as such, its a filter. You need to screw the thread into an existing lens with a 52mm thread.

I'm really new to this, here's my camera -

How would it screw on?

Sorry for quality of photos here - iPhone 3GS :(

Does that lens have a filter thread of 52mm? If not you cant use your fisheye thingy.

Look at the back of the lens cap, it should say what size thread it is. If it says 52mm, then just screw the fisheye thing onto the front on the lens.

It appears to just screw into the filter thread on the front of your lens Danni. Looking at the ebay link there are two other rear thread sizes available so it seems you need to buy the lens with a view to mounting on a particular lens.

Not sure about that, see my eBay link? I'm such a noob at this aha ....

It says on the eBay link "BACK(Mount) Threads sizes :52mm"

You need to know the size thread of the big lens you have. We know the fisheye is 52mm, so we need to know what size thread the zoom lens you have is. If its not 52mm, then you cant screw the fisheye to the front of it. If it is 52mm, then just screw the fisheye to the front.

It says at the bottom of the eBay link "for the 52mm telephoto lens"
I'm so baffled...
My boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday and I feel bad cause I haven't used it yet and it's been a month since my birthday :/

I don't think it will if this is the lens you have http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/sony_18-70_3p5-5p6_m15/
then you needed to buy a 55mm one.

If you look into the end of your lens (as if you were going to have your picture taken) you will see some numbers one of them will say Ø55 that means the lens is 55mm wide and requires 55mm filters you may beable to get your hands on a ring to convert it but I couldn't advise you about that.

I've made the stupidest mistake in the world and yes it is 55mm, sorry for all this! I'm new to this and it was my mistake :/

Yes, it screws onto the front of a lens with a 52mm thread. If the lens you currently have attached to your camera has a 52mm thread, then screw it on. If it doesnt, you'll either need to buy a lens that has a 52mm thread, send the fisheye back and buy the correct sized one or find a ring adapter.

Thanks Danielle

If that is the DT 18-70mm kit lens then it should just screw on the front of the lens... Make sure you've unscrewed the filter on the front of your lens.... if there is one.

Edit: Sorry just noticed that the lens is 55mm.... So if is that lens is it's the wrong item i.e. It won't fit

It's not a problem asking questions we all had to start somewhere, and we've all made mistakes along the way.

It maybe worth getting in touch with the person you got it from on ebay and see if they will swap it for you.
