Fisheye photography

First post, so hello all!

I'm new to photography but having lots of fun taking shots and learning.

Something I am trying at the moment is playing around with a 0.45x fisheye at f22 with a flash. The effect that I am looking for isnt quite right, id like a more extreme distorted effect.

Do I need a 0.25x fisheye? Will this have any effect on how extreme the "bending" is?

Its a Panasonic GF1 with 14mm lens.

With a fish-eye adapter? They're not great...

Need a pukka fish-eye lens.

Yep, with fisheye adapter.

A friend of mine took some shots with one of the Opteka adapters and got a much more extreme effect.

So will a 0.25 or 0.45 give me a more extreme effect?

Does the 0.45x look like it gives slightly less than half the original focal length? If it does then presumably a 0.25x would give a quarter of the original focal length, creating a stronger effect.

Is there any particular reason you're using it at f/22? Sounds like an unnecessary waste of flash power.

Not sure why you would want an effect like that, but there's nothing fish-eye about it

Hi Tom

You could take that pic with your 14mm lens no problem at all.You don't need a fisheye adapter or F22.
If you want a bit more distortion try angling the camera up or down.That increases the distortion.You do however always get the least amount of distortion in the cemtre of the frame.

I did take that picture! But I want it with more fisheye distortion.... Ill have a play around and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

I think that's the image they want to imitate? Why not try adding some sort of fisheye effect in post if you really want one? The 0.25x one will certainly give you more distortion than 0.45x. But for real fisheye effects you need a fisheye lens.

That's not the image he wants to imitate, that's an image he took and posted to answer my question about what he was trying to achieve using f/22 and a flash.

In case any other newbies found this thread and were interested... this is what I ended up with... and it was what I was after! Got a 0.18x adapter in the end.
