Flatbed Scanner for film prints.

I've not had a scanner for many years. I think I used to have an Epson.

My stepdad passed away a fortnight ago, and at some point we'd like to get a load of old photos digitalised for an album or more than likely a book.

Most of the photos are probably 6x4 - I think there might be some 4x4 too.

I don't really want to be spending hundreds on a scanner, but is there anything half decent for reasonable money (up to £150 ish)

Scan speed isn't really an issue I think the important things are ease of use alongside IQ obviously.

I've had high-end scanners for over 30 years, the first around 1994 was an Escom rebadged Tamarak about £2,000

Now I'm using my third and best high-end scanner an Epson V750, but I really only use it to scan negatives and E6 trannies. A good printer/scanner is more than cable of scanning small prints at 1200 dpi.

The V750 lives in my darkroom, at the bottom of my garden, I have an HP Smart Tank Plus 555, that's wireless, and sits in the downstairs dunny, scans of prints are excellent. But there are many printer/scanners equally good.

I've certainly had good results scanning photo prints with my ancient Canon MG5250 all-in-one printer. You wouldn't want that, but any modern all-in-one should do the trick (you may already have one). One step up would be a used Epson perfection V600, which will give you access to better resolution and better scanning software (Epson Scan for instance, or Vuescan). The V600 can also scan and invert negatives for you, although more suited to medium format than 135 or smaller formats.
