Flickr - photostream question

I have a quick question regarding the Flickr photostream.

Is there a way to keep images uploaded to the site, but not viewed directly in your photostream?

As an example I upload any images I use on the internet onto Flickr, this may be some random image for use on a forum, something for sale, etc.

I find that when I look through my photostream this can become a little distracting as they're not really images i want to share via Flickr.

Obviously I can set them to private, but then they can't be linked to.

Is there a way to filter them out from my photostream or would I be better just hosting random images elsewhere?

Don't think so (but I'm happy to be proven wrong), I just use photobucket for all the random stuff. It's free and it keeps my photostream neat and tidy :)

You can link private images no problems, you can't link people back to the page the photo is on (obviously) but you can link to the .jpg file :) it still shows them in your photostream, which is a little annoying, but it is only showing them to you, no one else can see them.

They will always be in you photostream. You can set the permissions to private but as you said, they cant be linked. You could always make a set to put the randoms in. Personally I have a photobucket account which is just used for my internet random images.

Edit: ahh you can link to the jpeg, as jimmy's said.

I just have a second, non-pro Flickr account for my forum images. Don't bother with tags, naming or any of that. I just resize to 800 pixels and upload to my second account. The full size shots go on my 'proper' Flickr.

I have flickr for my nice photos, and an imageshack account for other people's edits, things to sell etc. I know it's not the nicest solution, but it was the first thing I thought of!

Sorry, I know it doesn't help very much!

Chris

Thanks chaps. I used to use imagestation but it used to crash on my when uploading, etc so I got annoyed.

I think I might just open a non-pro account as has been mentioned, or maybe try Photobucket.

If I set a photo to private then directly link to the .jpg it says this image is currently unavailable?

Aha - thanks!! You have some great images in your stream yourself

Jimmy - I reckon it's because I've since changed the privacy settings after I linked to it, maybe the url has changed.

I'll check :)

Yep, the url must change after you change the privacy settings :)

ah yeah, I did that once trying to see if I could make a whole set private, it knackered up any links, even when changing them back to public :( forgot about that.
