Flickr Rules?? - 200 photos

I have just had this message appear after my most recent upload....

You have 184 photos stored on Flickr. Once you hit 200, you'll need to upgrade to a Flickr Pro account or you'll only be able to see your most recent 200 photos.

Nothing will be deleted, and if you upgrade, you'll have unlimited space for all your things. Perhaps you'd like to upgrade to Pro now?

What does it mean? And how exactly will it effect my uploaded photos? Will I never be able to see them to, let's say, post them on a forum etc.?

I would love to get a pro account but funds are so far off from allowing this, it's stupid.

If you use BT as your ISP, you get a free pro account, I only found this out by reading these forums but it wouldn't let me associate my current flickr account with it so had to start a fresh one. As for the number of photo's I exceeded the limit and it only shows/allows access to the last 200 pics uploaded so you may lose access to your earlier stuff but if you go pro, they should still be there.

HTH

From Flickrs FAQs

How many photos and videos can I upload for free?

When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload 2 videos and 100MB worth of photos each calendar month.

While the 100MB bandwidth limit for photos is firm, we do allow a little leeway for video in case you encounter transcoding errors, sound sync weirdness, etc. You will be able to delete and upload a new video. Please note, that if we determine you’re abusing your free video upload privileges, we may block your ability to share video.

Your upload limits are reset to zero at midnight in Pacific Time Zone (Flickr headquarters time) on the first of each calendar month. You can't recover any of your monthly allowance by deleting photos. If you have a free account, you'll see your limit on the upload page.

If you find yourself hitting your limit, try a pro account. Or, you can shoot your photos at a lower resolution or resize them to be more "web-friendly" (like 300KB instead of 5MB).

Thanks for the quick replies!

I'm with SKY :(

I already lower the resolution, but it's the actual AMOUNT of pictures.
Poo.
Are you allowed to run two flickr accounts? And then I'll take one of them pro once funds allow...?

I can't see a problem per say with two free accounts, we ran two from home before I splashed out and went pro on mine, and we never had a problem. You probably need two email addresses to register two accounts though, but that shouldn't be a problem.
There does seem to be some confusion about what your limit is on a free account though. I always thought it was about the upload limit as sbowler579 shows, but I've heard other people say they have been warned about a 200 photo limit for free accounts :shrug:

You can have as many accounts as you can remember the logins for

Ok, will open another account when I hit 200, I have 4email addresses :cuckoo:so that's no problem. Hopefully going Pro isn't too far in the future.

I THINK this 200 limit is fairly new?? I only first saw the mention of it the other day when they lifted the number of sets to unlimited...for the last 200photos on your account. I too thought it was just he bandwith for each month, but apparently not :(

it is fairlynew - I wasn't warned on my previous batch upload (about 2 weeks ago) but went pro on saturday when I had another 197 to upload

Can you not just delete some stuff off your account that you have got bored with? i.e. is the limit 200 uploaded or 200 cumulatively hosted?

35 quid for two years photo hosting and promotion???

Hardly breaks the bank does it? Presumably you find flickr useful in promoting and sharing your work.... and its less than 5p a day.

The two hundred limit caught me out once before, So i upgraded. You can do it yearly as well, and I think it came close to £20 when I last did.

You can actually continue uploading once you go past the 200 photos. I have over 600 and you still get access to them through your photostream and others can see them if they search your photostream. I currently have over 600 on.

The 200 limit only affects the amount of photos that are displayed. Only the latest 200 photos will be listed but once you go onto your photostream all photos over the 200 are there.

From Flickr's help page:

I have a free account. Some of my photos aren't showing up. Why?

On a free account, Flickr limits the number of photos displayed.

If you have fewer than 200 photos, we display them all. If you have more than 200 photos, only the most recent 200 are displayed.

Your photos are not removed from Flickr, only from the list of your photos. If you blogged a photo and it no longer appears in your list, it will still appear on your blog, and the photo's Flickr page will still work just fine.

If some of your photos aren't showing up, don't panic! Just upload some fresh ones. Or upgrade to a Pro Account.

Note: If your free account is inactive for 90 consecutive days, it will be deleted

thanks for posting this! it reminds me i've got to renew my pro soon!
