I've no idea what these are save a high-rise tower block of flowers
( about 5" tall) they turned up a couple of years ago, by the side of my pond
and decided to stay

Hawthorn. Known locally as May or Mey. There's a saying "Never cast a cloot till Mey be oot." (Don't remove any clothes until May is out.) Generally people claim the saying relates to the month, keep your clothes on until the end of May. Some people argue it means Don't remove any clothes until the Hawthorn blossom is out.
