Beginner Fly on Laurel and a Dead head.

Tried out the flash diffuser again. Not a fan of the 50mm 1.8 on extension tubes though.

I didn't know there was anything crawling on the dead head when I took the photo, hence it not being the focal point.

Yes, I understand that! Maybe try a longer focal lens.

The light here is very nice, soft and equally diffused
but, more apparent in the first take, DRL and tonal
taming issues…

Because I use Rawtherapee, it doesn't have the same settings as other programs. What are the name of the settings you use for tonal taming? I struggle with using curves because they don't make sense to me.

And, though I understand the Curve Toll, it is
since long no part of my workflow anymore.
With the great power behind new engines in
C1, I think it is somehow antiquated.

This is an attempt using the curves on Rawtherapee. I used the caged curves to prevent me destroying the tones.

Can't help you there as I use none of them.
OTH, every time you save a jpg file, some
degeneration occurs… and that's bad.

This is why I want to work out how to adjust levels properly on Rawtherapee, as it is the raw processing program.

That is a big improvement, really shows how PP can help with macro work, well done (remember to check the monitor regularly).

Unfortunately I am still using a laptop monitor which is virtually impossible to calibrate. A lot of my PP is done based on me knowing where the monitor is out. The damn cheap monitors at work are perfect for colour but are absolutely terrible in every other way.
