Focus difference between two lenses

I have two leneses that I use more often than others. One is the Canon 18-55 IS Lens and the other a Canon 28-135 IS lens. The 18-55 in my opinion always produces better focus results than the 28-135.....the two pics are test shots taken in auto mode the first is the 18-55 and the second the 28-135...I think the focus isnt what it should be, could the latter require pro attention such as a calibration (if they do that), or is it just a characteristic of the bigger zoom lens....!

I have also been considering buying the newer Canon 18-135 IS lens, could this have the same characteristics or could it be as sharp as the 18-55 i already own, Thanks for any advice....;)
 
Impossible to tell without all the information. Are they both at the same aperture, both focused on exactly the same point, both same shutter speed, bith same focal length??

Need to do a more in depth test too see if there is any focusing issues.
 
Tried the above test again with exactly the same settings as was recommended.....the first shot is the 18-55 and the second the 28-135

My eyes reckon the second may be slightly(very) sharper all over, but then my eyes need help to focus right.
 
They both look as sharp as each other to me. The colour difference could be down to the characteristics of each lens, some are more contrasty than others.
