Focus points on Canon EOS 40D

Yep

Are you asking should this happen or is there another question you would like help with?

Phil

personally i always use the centre focus point - that way i can chose where i want to focus in a image and not leave it to the camera to get it wrong.

I have the 450D and I believe some of the other focus modes use multiple AF points, but one-point is the default. In most of the program modes, you set your af mode manually if I recall. Dig the manual out. it will clear things up for you.

In auto the camera is making ALL the decisions with the exception of where it is pointed.
This includes which part of the frame covered by a focus point should be in focus.

In the other modes you can press the multi controllor to light up all the focus points if you so wish, but it will probably just annoy you by shoosing the wrong place to focus

I don't have my 40D here but frommemory it's the top right button as you look at the rear of the camera, press that and then turn the wheel.

Yes, seem to remember if your in "green" square the camera is in fully auto mode including all the focus points, if you go to "P", the camera is in kind of semi-automatic, where you can change some parameters, inc the focus points. Hope this helps
