Ford Escort Mexico, just Escorts

I would have loved a photo from the front, but it would have meant I would have had to go into the yard.

Wish I still had my mk1 Mexico , sold it for £900,mid 80s if I only knew how much they would be worth years later, but then I couldn’t afford to just keep it. The money went towards a 4 door cortina.

A mate lived at the top of a hill , at the bottom of the hill was a scrapyard , early 80s when nobody wanted old fords they rolled a genuine mexico down the hill to the crusher because it wasn't worth fixing due to rust

Nothing like what they're putting back on the road today though, just not worth fixing at the time , hindsight is a wonderful thing , he also sold a 1983 capri laser to a mate about 15 years ago for £300 , the guy had it a week and a number plate company gave him £300 for the plate , free Capri :D

They aren't Mexico wheel arches. It would be interesting to see if they are selling that, or just working on it for a customer.

Looks a bit rough at the back end. No sign of a Mexico bag either, did they have badges on the rear?

should have a Mexico badge on the back, and reversing/fog lights IIRC (1 light each side just above the bumper)

The place seemed like it was open, or at least I could hear people working in the garage. I suppose I could not have even asked a mechanic if I saw one near the car, as distance rules apply.

Not necessarily reversing lights but should certainly be badged on the boot. Not original for sure.

I actually prefer them with the pin striping to the Mexico decals.

My boss in my first full time job ran a Cortina Mk II 1600E. We sometimes drove from London to Luton for meetings and I felt very superior being chauffeured along the M1 in such a superior vehicle.

Ah... the simple joys of youth! :naughty:

My Dad's friend briefly had a 1600E with a Rover V8 fitted in it, which was quite good fun as a Q car.

I think I have got a photo of my brother's mk11 Cortina somewhere. Not a 1600E though.

I think it would have been the Ford V6 conversion, they were known as a Savage.

No, this was a Rover V8, ISTR it had a modified Jag back axle to cope with the power (although I may be wrong about that bit). He didn't keep it long - which is probably why he's still alive!

The chap who does my bike MOTs has a Vauxhall Firenza with a Rover V8 in it. Properly done too - upgraded suspension, brakes etc..

Been out for my afternoon walk, and went past the classic car place again.
No sign of the Escort Mexico, or base model Escort with Mexico stickers.

There seems to be a lot more cars, mostly Escorts ( I did see a Sierra and possibly an Orion). Maybe they just buy old rusty Escorts and do them up.
