Hi - my son in law is trying to get his playstation to recognise his external hard drive (so that he can put pictures from his drive on to the playstation) and he has been told that he needs to format his external hard drive to FAT 32.....how does he do this please.
If you could explain step by step that would be great.
Appreciate any help
Dave

first off with the drive plugged into a computer find out what drive letter the external drive is using.

in windows click START then RUN, type in:

CMD (and press OK)

in the black box that appears type:

format X: /FS:fat32 /q (where X is the drive letter) (and press return)

First off .. you won't be able to 'plug' it into a computer.

You will need to connect it with some specialist leads - usb if you want to do it 'outside'. Fortunately these are cheap and plentiful on Ebay.

Or you can open up a standalone computer and use one of the power leads and connectors to add it as a 2nd drive. Then you are in the region of the above message.

If you make backups (data/photo) to a hard drive, you could get a cradle which allows you to plug a bare hard drive in. This comes complete with the necessary leads.

I got this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/221365 but it's no longer sold by these. A search on Google should turn something similar up.

I am having the same problem with a Western Digital drive that is connected to my router.

Comes up on computer as network location -

Public (\\MyBookWorld) (Y: ) & Download (\\MyBookWorld) (Z: )

Is it the same principal using command etc I was hoping to partition it as it is a 2TB version but have had no luck with this either :-(

Wondering why you didn't tell him to use the right click menu and format from there I tried it myself and saw there was no FAT32 option. Just exFAT. What's this? Never seen it before.

Yeah i noticed that when i went to format my hard drive

I used a program called EASEUS Partition downloaded it for free this allows you to keep a amount in NTFS for day to day and create a partition in FAT32

Did this with a 250gb seagate go portable 150gb for moves, music etc and 150gb for my Xbox 360. worked a treat and easy to use

Need any more info let me know
