Just to put you all in the picture I have a Nikon D300 camera and I tried to display the pictures from my Sandisk CF 4gig Extreme 1V on the computer.
Problem was it kept comming up corrupt file, so my first thought was to format the CF card. On the Nikon cameras the instructions tell you to press the dustbin and mode buttons together ( those with red dots beside) wait a couple of seconds until f starts flashing in the top screen and when the flashing stops the memory card is formatted.
Well I tried doing this and the card was still showing the file was corrupt on the computer. I was about to throw out an expensive CF memory card.
The answer ,totally ignore the above Nikon advice and format via the menu in -setup menu-format the memory card. After I had formatted the memory card this way I could then display new pictures taken without any problem.
SO always format via the main menu is my advice
Maybe this should be the method with all makes of cameras to format memory cards I don't know, but don't just rely on the 2x button method Nikon recommend.
