fotopic gone?

But what other arrangements, there isnt anything as good and adaptable as fotopic out there, PBase, Smugmug, Flickr, theyre all totally rubbish compared to fotopic, unless of course anyone knows anything else suitable.

PBase doesn't have limits on size/number of prints and I know you can add a buy now paypal option to photo's

If you just want to store photos, then any decent web host will manage it perfectly well. When I say decent, I don't mean £25/50 a year hosts. To spend £100-150 a year is very reasonable business expenses if your web site brings in business of any size. My web host, bytemark.co.uk, has never gone down for me once. Only thing is it's for the more technically minded as they don't offer fancy control panels - you get a server (virtual or dedicated) and reliable web hosting.

My £25 a year web host has never gone down.

ITS BACK UP :)

What about this Kipax http://www.one.com/en_GB/

25gb webspace with an inbuilt photo gallery.

read the terms and conditions on unlimited bandwidth.. its not unlimited and they will decide if accesive and either charge or shut you down..

me, one.com, barge pole....

Just got the following after I e-mailed FOTOPIC

On Friday 2nd January 2008 photo sharing site Fotopic.net suffered a core
equipment failure while upgrading the server and network capacity. As a
result of this the Fotopic.net website was unavailable from approximately
9am on Friday 2nd January.

Despite our best efforts to resolve the situation the gallery service
remained unavailable until approximately 10:30am on Monday 5th January
2008.

As a result of this outage we are examining our hosting capability and
contingency plans, but wish to assure customers that Fotopic.net has not
ceased trading and will be enhancing its services during 2009. No data or
images have been lost during this time and all systems are back to normal.

Additionally we will be extending Plus and Premium subscriptions by an
extra 2 weeks as a goodwill gesture.

We apologise for the situation which was ultimately out of our control,
and would like to thank customers for bearing with us.

Best regards,

The Directors
Snappy Designs Ltd trading as Fotopic.net

Unfortunatly since Broadband and people who totally abused it by leaving their computers downloading porn, illegal movies, illegal software and the like 24 hours a day all ISP's have a similar get out clause as to "Bandwith"

Unfortunatly so do web hosting companies, they use the clause to stop people hosting the afore mentioned material on their servers for download and usually pre set the limit dependant on the hosting package you choose.

I have googled one.com and there doesnt seem to be any issues with people having the plug pulled because of excessive bandwith usage.

One can only give them a try, after its only a few quid were talking about.

nothing wrong with that and they have that clause but no set limits.. you should never trust a company that says unlimited as they are either lying or stupid... theres no such thing as unlimited

if your not going to use much bandwith then its not a problem.. unfortunatly the hobby/business we at TP are in means high bandwith usage to show pictures... i prefer a company that is up front and says this is the limit you can have... not we will monitor and if we think too high then charge you...

Anyone else having problems with Fotopic today, every time I try to upload files I get kicked out to the login page. I'm also being told I don't have permission to modify my collections.

PS.. just tried to log in.. wont let me....sigh :(

What is so good about Fotopic ,and yippee that they are back up and running, is its simplicity i gues i am not alone in not wanting an all singing dancing website just somewhere I can upload copies of my shots for freinds and family to look at.Because of the simple way to you can create a "SET" for want of a better term it is easy to identify each shoot, this also works perfectly for my football club where we can easily have a set of shots per match so that the players can show off there prowess again to friends and family.
As soon as it appeared that Fotopic was defunct i starting looking elsewhere for the football club and nothing for the cost came even close to the functionality that Fotopic offers us

i lost my website, i tryed getting on my website yesterday, and i couldnt, its gone...

Hopefully people can see from my website how to use the templates... fotopic sits inside my website very nicely..

i would suggest everyone downloads the back up tool i linked to earlier in the thread and back up your collections right away.

Guy's just a word of warning about Fotopic.net

I used them to sell pictures via the net. I am currently awaiting a payment of over £400.00 that I requested in November 2008. they wont answer the phone or emails regarding this. Some of my customers have not received the items they ordered either.

Just be careful guys, maybe Joel could assist in clearing this matter up?

They don't owe me anything like that amount but payments really have slowed down of late

I dont have a fototopic site but lots of my friends do and I can no longer access there websites - and to be honest its so slow I would never put up with such a crap service with
all these troubles I would take heed of Gary Coyles advice and get all your images backed up elsewhere

must add a plug for my host Smugmug who are brilliant for me I have been with them about 6 years now and cannot fault them never once had any bandwidth issues
and I pay now the same as I started £30 a year which I think is fantastic
my package is the 'Power' one and its fine for my needs
best of all its so simple a monkey can use it

cheers
Chris
