I can tell you these both work and I do use them!

Free hosting - http://www.000webhost.com/

You get 1500 MB of disk space and 100 GB bandwidth!

Free .co.uk domain - http://www.gbbo.co.uk/

Gbbo is founded by BT and Google to British businesses on-line. They are giving you a free .co.uk domain for 2 years!

All you need is a template and your sorted! You can even get your templates for free! Some are the post "So... you want a website."

Don't rush to thank me! :D I have just been told about this and thought you guys may benefit! :)

Was looking around for free domain and hosting. Could I be nosy and have a look at your website or do you design for someone else?

I installed a few shopping carts, and used 000webhosting.

Wow thanks for that!!! I just registered a domain. So do i have to wait 60 days before I can move this to my own web host? Also, will they take my domain off me if I use it for a personal website rather than a business?

I wouldn't think they would take it off you for several reasons. One is that once its registered it can't be unregistered. So there no point in taking it away. Another reason is how can they find out? ;)

really?

T&C's:

Withdrawal of services.

1. If you use the GBBO Site or any of the services offered through the GBBO Site in contravention of these terms, or of any other terms referred to in these terms (including without limitation the Google Site Terms and BT Terms), or if you use them against the spirit of the GBBO campaign, your:
1. free domain name; and
2. the site you have set up through the GBBO Site,
3. login for the GBBO Site (if any),
may be withdrawn from you.

id suggest that BT hold the registration of the domain name for you on those terms..

How do I point the .co.uk domain name registered under GBBO to another hosting provider?

This is taken from another forum where I got the links from. :)

Go to http://000webhost.com/
Scroll down and click "order now" on the Free hosting package
Put in your current domain.
Fill in rest of form and create account.
I believe then you should see on screen or be sent an e-mail with account details, FTP address, name server info etc.
Go log into the GBBO website where you just setup your website previously and there should be a tab about Nameservers, edit them and put in the nameservers you just got from 000webhost, which should be something like ns02.000webhost.com

You cannot transfer your free domain name to be administered by another provider within the first 60 days of its registration.

Thanks Andy. Sorted :)

Biiiiiiiiiiig "thank you" for me!

I was about to shell out £150 for a photium site, but I'm doing it the hard way and doing a mixture of templates, HTML, gallery software etc.

Gives me something to do that isn't revision anyways  :D

I registered a domain the beginning of the month with GBBO and I just signed up for this free hosting to try it out. Went to the GBBO online portal and it let me change the nameservers already even though it has been less than 60 days. Will this actually go through then (assuming it takes the standard 24 hours to propagate) or will it get blocked by GBBO until the 60 days are up?

It went through for me so you should be fine......... :) Just keep checking your website in the next 24 hours or so.

What happens around renewal time? Won't GBBO just charge a hell of an amount to renew it? Although you could go via nominet, I suppose...

You get the option of cancelling it, or carrying on at the regular BT rate. No obligation either. It's in the small print when you sign up!

Cheers, I don't own a business but I'll let local businesses know - because I'm that kind. ;)

You can transfer your domain atleast for free to someone like 123-reg....... at the end of 2 year term and pay 6 quid for another 2 years for your domain name.
