Yes
I'm getting an offer pop up on the start bar on the PC about a free upgrade to windows 10. I'm just wondering what will happen with my copies of Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 5, Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effect CS6. Will they still work on windows 10 or will I have to stick to 7 so they keep working? I'm not very clued up about this sort of stuff.

I think you can download it, but you should have an option to not run it, I guess there will be some problems, I am hanging on to seven for a while longer.

Win 10 is actually very good, been running the trial version for a few months now. I did a fresh Win10 install on to a spare HD though, and then installed PS and Lightroom and they work fine with no issues.

What i will say though is, the Upgrade Microsoft is offering is just that at the start. In other words, it will not be a clean install, it's an upgrade on top of (in your case)Win7. Once you have done the upgrade and your Win7 key is registered to Win10, you will be able to download a Win10 iso to enable you to do a fresh OS install. So in answer to your question, the upgrade alone i don't know. But a fresh Win10 install, then yes they work fine.

I see what you're saying. Things could be a bit tough and go until the proper 10 os download, but after the full install my programs should still work fine? When I got them windows 8 wasn't even out.

What i would do in your position is go to Control Panel/Backup and Restore, from there create a system image using a spare HD or any HD in your system that does not contain your Windows files, or you can use DVD's. Also create a System repair disk. That way, if things don't work after you have done the Win10 Uprgrade, you can be back to the way you were within a few mins. I normally run Win7 and all the progs that i run on that work perfectly fine on Win10 including my tablet drivers and my GFX drivers (ATI), and take it from me, i do run some very off the ball progs lol.

Cheers. I have all my programs on an external hard drive and my original win 7 disc. I just need a bigger HD or some dvds to save the rest of my stuff. That way if it goes pear shaped, which it will with me then I have everything as a back up.

Windows 10 is more of an interface update rather than key kernel changes so yes The Adobe products you mention will work with Windows 10.

I would wait until it is confirmed against the final build. But as recommended, let it download, just install later.

I've used all of the above on Windows 10 (Various Builds) and experienced no issues whatsoever. 10 Get's a massive thumbs-up from me

In fact, if memory serves, Microsoft have stated that an upgrade advisor will run prior to the upgrade and will advise you to any incompatibilities. Microsoft have gone above and beyond this time to ensure that applications will continue to function :)

Sounds good (y) how come you have been running Windows 10 already? I have reserved my download and it said it will give me a notification after the 29th of july when it's ready.

Preview builds of W10 have been widely available from MS. Some have been good, some haven't so it's not been something you'd want on your only PC.....

I'm trying to work out what gets the upgrade offer and what doesn't. My three home-build desktop PCs with retail W7 Pro, W7HP and W8.1Pro all have got the upgrade available as has my mother's Asus laptop running W8.1 but my Dell (W7Pro) and Samsung (W8.1) laptops haven't. It may be that my lappies just need to be left switched on a bit longer.....

Interesting. I have the little icon on both my desktop PC and the Dell laptop. They are both running Win8.1

Anthony.

And I notice I have arrived at 500 posts (it's taken quite a long time)!

I highly recommend using 'EaseUS Todo Backup Free' to backup and create an image disk, it is a free download and very good piece of software. Windows inbuilt tools are useless!

Could you indicate on what there is about the inbuilt tools that is 'useless'? I would really like to know, as I use them frequently and would not wish to get caught out.

If all you want to do is create an image disc that can get your windows install back to the point when you took the image, then the inbuilt Windows imaging in Win7 and Win8 work perfectly. There never has been anything wrong with them. They are very basic though and don't give you many options. But in all honesty, what options do you want ? Me, i just want an image that will get me back to where i was before i did something stupid lol.

No actually the back up utility for Windows is prone to crashing and is a common problem. just because it works for you doesn't mean it works perfectly for everyone else. There are plenty of better free alternatives, EaseUS back up for example: EaseUS Todo Backup Free is a free and easy-to-use backup software for home users to back up photos, music, videos, documents. It is an award-winning solution for a good reason: with detailed instruction wizards, your system, files, folders, videos, music will be in a safe condition within minutes without the help of an IT specialist. Most of all, it is free to use. New features: Brand-new and intuitive user interface to make operation easier. New added smart backup feature helps to perform automatic backup once there are any changes to the selected files. Option to automatically update software when new version is available, no need to download and install software again.
Main features: One click system backup and recovery, including the OS and installed applications. File and folder backup & recovery, including network data. Safe full backup mode and efficient mode - incremental backup to save time and disk space. Backup schedule for automatic system & data backup. Automatically delete/overwrite old images. Clone, backup & restore GPT disk. Backup options: image split, image compression, set priority, email notification, etc. Clone or transfer hard disk to another. Back up to CD/DVD, network. Explore image files. Specify backup types like full and incremental while manually execute task/plan in Management.

Nah it will be fine. Although I will image my system freshly today before I apply it ;)

With my misbehaving Windows Update I would be er get it until fixed or what?

Last night had a look for full download source as ms on their main portal talk about the App. I found a review type website that helped me in two ways. One was an alt method I have yet to try for another attempt at resetting won update plus a direct link MS download page for Win10

On the road today so posting via smartphone so will post links this evening if folk want. Oh the direct DL page offers what ms call a media creator programme that apparently offers the W10 as the following types - for USB, DVD or ISO file.

PS the way my w7 update is playing up it the above mentioned last try fails I am thinking installing W10 as an upgrade is my route to a quieter life  but as mentioned ideally I do not want be having issues with the various installed programmes!

its a bit annoying you cant do a clean install and just enter the key code from your w7 or w8 disc

Cannot recall exact info but the pages I felt found mention both upgrade and later fresh install being possible for the same download.

Apparently MS require an 'update' installation first and then a clean install can be done thereafter - crackers I know...

Useful link if like me the Windows update method fails with an error, this also allows you to create the media for the future https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Mine all done, 15Mins to install and start using it (I5-4460 16Gb Ram 256Gb SSD.

Link looks almost same as the one I mentioned above though 'mine' was an 18.7MB "creator" file, so yours seems like a next step?

Was yours am upgrade installation if so from what? Or a clean install?

PS all installed programmes playing nicely with it? I have Office 2007.....hopefully this is deemed compatible and as such are all emails and settings carried over OK?

Box Bownie, mine was an in place upgrade over 8.1. Office 2013, chrome, LR & PS (CC versions) all working fine. Still can't view the raws from my 7DII in explorer though :(
I'd probably recommend waiting a few days in case there is a serious problem, but I do home and business computer support for a living so I had no choice before one of my customers did it and then called with a problem/question.

Scheduled mine to install after tea ... if it all goes wrong I can have a doze :D

Im still clinging onto my XP machine so will be keeping a keen eye on how w10 pans out with everyone as I hope to buy a new PC in the next 6-10 months, as it will be getting on for 9 years old then and struggling with modern video and large raw files.

ill be hoping my stand lone LR (3) and PS (c2) still work.

sorry that doenst really contribute to the discussion, but thanks for the info so far

Any info on how your installations go and first impressions would be useful :)

Thanks for the update and insight.

I will wait but as .mentioned above one more go to start with getting my W7 update agent to play nice again.

But I will DL W10 and prepare.........I look forward to others insights as to how the compatibilty checker "worked" in passing or not older software such as Office 2007. Has anyone taken any specific precautions in regard to emails and settings or did they all get 'carried' over OK?

I installed today on my primary touchscreen laptop as an upgrade over 8.1. So far, after a couple of hours use, I haven't found any SNAFUs. I don't give a stuff for the Windows "apps", but all my proper desktop software works just as it should. Business as usual really.

I always used Classic shell to make Windows 8 work more like Windows 7 with a proper start button. That migrated across fine, but I've just uninstalled that to see the real 10 and it's certainly much better than that POS that 8 has.

Must look up Classic Shell because SWMBO's laptop with W8.1 still does my head in with its GUI, so as above must DL CS in readiness.
FWIW she has mentioned W10 so her laptop may well have downloaded it by no w ready to offer that upgrade. I have said so far I and and she should wait.......though for how long?

In regard to the upgrade install, I have Win7Pro 64 bit and as far as I read it the downloadable ISO has all bundled and the installer I surmise will detect it and install this Win10 Pro 64 bit

Now I also have two UAC in use, will these also be transfered OK?
