Have spend the best of the weekend trying to upgrade to SP1, even installed a fresh copy of Vista but no joy. Get an error message that could not upgrade. Any clues TPle? Going crazy with this.

Some hardware has, I believe, incompatibilities with SP1 and the installation process just will not initialise. I have seen this on a friend's Fujitsu laptop and I'd assume that it is the case with others too.

Googling your PC brand and vista SP1 may well throw up some solutions.

See here for an example of what's meant.

I had the same problem a while back, I had to take out a stick of memory so that I only had 1gig, install and update to sp1 then put the memory back in. Was fine after that for further upgrades. Soon binned Vista though and use W7, much better imo

Haven't Micro$oft stopped supporting Vista? Are the updates even on their site?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was third time lucky but did take my entire weekend and good part of today to resolve it... :)

Out of curiousity.... how did you resolve it?

Ensuring that the hard disk was fully formatted prior to installing Vista from the disk provided. Then downloaded SP1 and installed that. Next downloaded SP2 and installed that. :D
