From 7d to 5d MK1?

Apologies on the mix up about ergonomics (tried quoting onto this page but not idea on the new forum!)

My FF test went well (although managed to only shoot in JPEG). Did comparison shots with my 50d (comparing JPEG to JPEG) and the images are crazy detailed, you can zoom much further in before it pixelates.

Will be carrying out another test both in RAW hopefully this week.

Glad all went well.

Without wanting to open the 'megapixels in relation to IQ' can of worms - did you notice any difference with the significant drop in megapixels?

I know it shouldn't worry me, but it does. Especially as I knock out quite a few canvasses and slightly larger than normal prints.

It wasn't a 5d cllassic I was shooting with sadly, but a friends Nikon d600 (I think). I think the consensus is the larger the sensor (both taking the same image) the larger sensor always captures more detail/larger images.

From what I've read the reduction in MP a 5d has is not noticable, I want to print larger than a3 myself.

Possibly someone else can confirm what I have said is correct or not.

Ah I see. My mistake :)

I think the explanation you've given sounds about right though.

i have printed out 6 foot by 4 foot canvases from a 40d so you will be fine with 5d. man this is making me want to downgrade. seriously it is.

Have you considered financing your next camera? Clifton Cameras for example. You pay a bit more for the camera in the long run, yes, but you'd have a better camera. The sale of 7D and lens would easily cover the deposit.
 
I've had a 5D for a few years now, also the 5D MKii which incidentally I sold today. I've never been able to let the 5D go, it's a great camera, the images it produces are , I dunno, hard to describe, analogue I suppose, in comparison the 5D MKii looks digital !Its hard to describe the difference, the 5D's look like 35mm film shots. The menu system and the lcd are very primitive. I've almost sold it on three separate occasions, but still have it, that speaks volumes as to the appeal this camera holds (to me anyway)
 
Slight thread hi-jacking here and I might get into trouble for offering it, but I came across this discussion whilst I was researching 5D Mk1's for a potential sale of my daughters spare camera.

She has a 5D Mk 1 and Mk11 she bought for her Up to Speed photo journalism course. She never used it on the course as she had the Mk11, since then she has started working as a local press photographer and they gave her a brand new 5D MK111 (to say she was happy would be an understatement). She wants to keep the Mk11 as a back up and sell the Mk1 (with grip).
