a bit of history first, I have had a load of slrs and lenses (canon) and find now that I don't use them half as much as I should because of size and weight.

At the moment I have a 5D1 and 24-70 2.8. Great camera but I need something smaller, I got rid of my slr gear last Christmas and got myself an X-e1 and 23mm, great loved it but the focus speed was too slow for catching my wee girls, went back to the 5D I have now.

I feel the itch again now I have a bit more dosh to play with, so I can now get an x pro1 with the 18mm and 27mm or the xt10 and the 18-55.

I have never used these cameras and lenses, so any advice on these would be appreciated.

X-Pro1, the original x-series ILC. The hybrid OVF/EVF is unique and the main distinguishing feature of the body. The first geneation x-trans sensor has a following as the image is slightly different to that of the second generation. The processor is a little slower, the autofocus less refined and not truly suitable for fast moving subjects. This camera has a lot of devoted followers, it was my first x-series camera but the hybrid OVF wasn't something I benefitted from and I moved to a second generation model (X-E2).

X-T10, a pared down X-T1. I haven't used either of these models. More refined autofocus, second generation sensor with greater bit depth but some people find it's output less pleasing than the first generation sensor. Better EVF with gerater resolution and a more responsive refresh rate. "Baby SLR" appearance compared to the more classic rangefinder aesthetic of the X-Pro1.


All the x-series are good cameras (they have different strengths) and the lenses are excellent - there isn't really a dud lens in the line-up.

I owned the X-Pro1 and it's great. I've since chopped it in for the X-T10. In my opinion the latter is a lot better in terms of AF and feels pretty nice. It's essentially a cheaper compact X-T1.
Fuji make some great lenses. The 35mm, 23mm and 56mm are all stellar. If you want a zoom then you have several options now too. You won't really read a bad word on Fuji glass.
I use the 35mm, 18mm and also a Samyang 12mm. Will soon be getting the 56mm :D
I did have the 18-55 zoom for a little while. It's branded a 'kit lens' but it's a lot better than that. I just aren't one for zooms and stuck more to the 35mm f/1.4. I didn't think it felt that bad on the X-T10 either. I thought it may have felt a bit cumbersome.
If you have big hands though you may find the X-T10 a bit on the small side. The ergonomics of the XPro1 are a bit nicer in my view and the files as Alastair mentioned are a little more 'organic' when compared to the later X Trans sensor.

I also have a 5D. For AF, it's very good when compared and I love the output from it. I find it a hard camera to part with but I must admit, it doesn't get enough use over the Fuji and also M8 that I have so a part of me keeps thinking of letting it go. After using the Fuji and Leica for a while, the Canon feels quite a heft.

I swapped my D800 for an X-Pro 1 kit and took more shots in a month than I had in the year or so I'd had the D800. Still have the X-Pro 1 but much prefer the X-T1. Not tried the X-T10 since it would be a dowmgrade and I love the 1! I'm a big fan of the Fuji zooms and find that the 18-135 is the perfect partner for the X-T1 and compliments the body's WR as well as balancing well in the hand. The flip screen on the X-T1 as well as the dioptre adjustment are huge bonuses for me over the X-Pro 1 but the X-Pro is still used from time to time!
 
Guys thanks so much so far on this! Really helpful. I have looked at a couple of reviews on YouTube and a few pages of each thread (xt10 is harder to get info from as its paired with the xt1 thread) but yes free my last Fuji experience I've been longing to get back.

I hadn't really heard about the release of the xt10 so that has really helped with my thoughts about Fuji again. It's just trying to figure out which is for me.
 
I sold the bulk of my Canon gear , just kept the 5DMk2 and a couple of specialist lenses ( Fisheye and TS-E) and bought the XT-1 with the 18-135 together with the 27mm f2.8 and I love it, particularly as I get £75 cashback and a free battery grip.
The Fuji gets a lot more use than the Canon gear as its lighter a lot more portable and a lot less intrusive, yes I miss the long L glass sometimes but as it hardly ever got used its a trade off I can live with
 
X-T10 is a great camera and the perfect choice for getting back into Fuji ownership, possibly a better option now than the X-Pro1, albeit the X-Pro1 has something special about it and there's some really good deals on them around at present.

Lens wise, I started my own path with the 18-55 and 35mm but jettisoned the zoom, just didn't like it, and didn't find my particular lens lived up to all its hype. However, based on all its hype I am willing to concede it's likely to more a specific lens issue than anything more.
 
I purchased a Xpro1 kit quickly followed by a XT10 still finding my way around the menus and functions TBH.
The XT10 performance is excellent fast AF, tilting screen,high usable iso, built in flash make it the winner for me coupled with the 18-135mm ois is dogs dangles for me for general photography :):fuji:
 
Within the past two years I ditched my Nikon D800/Zeiss setup for the Fuji X system, never looked back. I've only ever shot with the X-Pro1 body and still love it!
As stated above Fuji don't make a bad piece of glass, although these XF lenses (for me) stand out more I think, 10-24 - 18 - 23 - 35 - 56 - 60 - 90 - 55-200 - 50-140.

Get yourself 2/3 extra spare batteries with 2/3 sixteen gigabyte SD cards and you'll be set ready to go, and a 'FootPrint' leather wrist strap.

A very versatile and compact system with uber quality and dynamic punch!

I've used both of these cameras. As all the peeps have mentioned the AF is a different animal on the XT10 but I did not find it a comfortable camera to hold. It just didn't feel right in hand. I preferred the feel of the XPRO1. I suggest going into a shop or renting one for the day maybe. Another option is the camera I own. The X-E2 falls in between these two when it comes to speed and you can pick up a used body for next to nothing nowadays. Leaving you some nice change for the great lenses! Fuji rules for me. It just makes me want to take pics again. You will not be disappointed!
 
Yes well I guess the xe2 is another option to throw in there with added glass.

Or I could just go xt10 and one prime, either 18 or 27. I could them slowly save for another... I just need to sell my gear now! Well then I have to figure out what I need to do...
 
X-E2 is a good option. All the basic internals of the X-T1 with slightly different styling and a supposed firmware update due sometime soon to put the system more on a par with the X-T1.

Second hand prices are pretty good too ;-)
