Fuji S6500 Screen Problems

My trusty fuji camera has served me well for the last few years now, but over the last few weeks, a nasty problem has been developing with the screen on the back of the camera (the large one, not the evf). The problem is basically there are two very large white bars on the left hand side of the screen, and the rest of the screen is virtually black, apart from some very faint text (I'll post a picture below, and hopefully this will be clearer). The date and time also seem to reset themselves when the camera is switched off.

I really don't know why it's failed like that. The screen clearly isn't cracked and the camera hasn't been dropped; it's been stored in a case when not in use, and when in use, I've been careful with it. Anyway, I've had the camera for 3 years now, so I think it's well out of warranty, so a free repair will probably be out of the question. So are there any places I can get a replacement screen and how difficult are they to fit? And if this isn't possible, does anyone know roughly how much it will cost to get it fixed (more than the camera is worth, I'd imagine :()?

What's my best option here? If the camera is beyond ecenomic repair, would it be better to shop around for a second hand dslr like a d40 or another entry level model? I'm not really sure what to do, but I don't think I can really live with it like that.

Thanks for any suggestions, your help is appreciated :).

I'm not a technical wizard but it looks & sounds from your description like a CPU failure of some kind to affect the screen that way and the clock/memory settings. You say the EVF is ok so are you able to take photos as normal and download them to a PC?

Not sure what the problem is, best to ring up fuji and ask where your local repairer is. I had a S6500fd, really liked it but I just sold it last week as I haven't used it since I got a SLR.

If live-view type shooting is your thing, it's worth looking at Sony & Olympus slr's. Alternatively it's back to bridge cameras, but it doesn't seem like anyone is building nice manual zoom bridge cams - apart from the pricey fuji S100 or S200.

Good luck.
