Which DSLR has the best dynamic range?
The Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro and S3 Pro scored a 13.5-stop dynamic range on DxO's dxomark.com website, which means they offer the highest in-camera dynamic range of all DSLRs in RAW mode. Dynamic range refers to the amplitude between light and dark details that a sensor can record. High dynamic range is essential for landscape and wedding photographers, but most digital cameras' dynamic range falls short of film.
Nikon's latest DSLRs did well, as did the Sony Alpha 900 (12.3 stops). All scored between 12 and 12.5 stop dynamic range, with the D90 scoring 12.5 stop dyanmic range, the third highest. Most cameras fell in the 11-12 stop range, although a handful were as low as 10 stops.
The top 20:
1. Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro (13.5)
2. Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro (13.5)
