Yes
Would you?

The house opposite has the start of a funeral procession about to begin. I have said hello in passing, but don't know them at all.

The procession is being lead by a white VW camper, converted as a hearse, with a couple of white stretch beatles for the mourners. I think it looks fantastic and is a great way to bow out.

I'd like to take some photos, but won't out of respect.

Would you?

In this situation, no I wouldn't.
If I knew the people and had discussed it prior to the event then yes or if it was someone famous then yes but taking pics of a neighbours funeral, whether or not I had said hi, would be a bit uncomfortable for me.

The are currently putting his name in flowers onto the luggage rack on the top.......

Deinitely not without prior approval and discussion.

Matt

I would have been very very upset if anyone had taken photos of my husband's funeral without asking the permission of my daughters and myself. I would have seen it as very intrusive - particularly if taken by someone I didn't actually know , other than by sight.

I would ask permission first.

I would also cross my fingers that the camper doesn't break down on the way :bang:

Exactly the reason why I didn't.

The whole funeral photography thing was debated a while ago, didn't look at the thread at the time.

A neighbour told me they had 6 motorcycle outriders to escort the procession, they were waiting round the corner.

I get paid to photograph funerals. Many people choose an unusual cortege and wish a record of the event, as one of the reasons.

This one looked fantastic, it was a really good send off. I can understand why people would want a record of it.

But that is the family's decision - not someone across the road

If the family wanted it then that's a different thing - we had a relatives funeral videoed to send to her daughter who lives across the other side of the world (she agreed she would like it) but even so, some of the non-family mourners clearly thought it was a bit odd.
Things like this need careful thought and consideration.

I sold an eos400d to a lass in Belfast who was setting up as a funeral photographer. Im a soft sod and dont think i could do it.

If somebody specifically wanted a funeral photographed then I'd have absolutely no issue with doing it (assuming I was comfortable that I had the necessary skills for what they wanted)

Certainly not something I'd want at a family member's funeral though.
And unsolicited candids :shake: a definite no-no.
