I have been trying all day to install a Nvidia Geforce GT220 graphics card into my Dell Inspiron 530 computer.

I have disabled the original graphics card driver, correctly fixed the card into the PCI slot and installed the new driver for the new graphics card but when i then turn the computer on i get to the scrolling microsoft name and then just end up with a black screen.

If left long enough the computer will display an error notice saying that it could not start

Any help will be gratefully received

Do you mean you have disabled the onboard graphics card in the Bios? or just the drivers in windows? and you say pci slot, did you mean pci slot or pci express? only I though the newer 2** series were pci-e only

It's clearly working well enough to give you an error message, I'd re enable the old card, go into windows and delete all graphics drivers, shut down and disable the onboard gfx from bios and then boot up and let windows find the new card if it gets that far.

Hi Hugh,
Only disabled drivers in windows.
Sorry - yes i should have said pci express

How do i disable onboard graphics card in Bios please

Thanks for your help

I've had a read of some info on google and it seems your onboard graphics should disable automatically when you insert a new card, do the deleting drivers thing ^ and see if it works that way.

Hitting the "del" key while booting up will get you into the bios settings, look uder the integrated peripherals menu and, disable onboard vga.
Best to make sure your present drivers are uninstalled first, without your new card inserted, shut down the pc, then insert new card, boot into bios to disable onboard vga, reboot and install new drivers on restart.

Firstly, maybe you could tell us what operating system you are using. I have the same card running faultlessly under Windows 7. You should not need to disable the onboard display drivers.

Hi,
I'm using Windows Vista 32bit.
i have tried all that you kindly suggested but it still wouldn't work so took it back to Currys for a replacement just in case it was faulty. But then they were out of stock so going to buy another card elsewhere.
Should i stick with the same or can anyone recommend a different card.
Thanks for everyones help

TBH, it depends on what you use your computer for. For photo editing etc, that card was more than sufficient for me but for a gamer, it would suck.
