Gitzo Ball Head problem?

Hi,

I picked up a new travel tripod today a Gitzo GK2580TQDt (half price so couldn't resist!).

I wasn't planning on getting a tripod with a head but decided to anyway. The issue I have is when you put the camera on the locking lever sticks out, it's fully locked but sticks out where I would have thought it would have gone all the way around as it does with no plate in,

As it is the lever is pretty much poking you in the face when using the camera, is there any way to adjust this or am I doing something wrong?

Please see below picture for example and excuse the bad phone cam pic :

Thanks

am I doing something wrong?

Yes, but not dramatic!

All you have to do is to mount the camera so that the level will
be under the lens… as intended! ;-)

Thanks, do you mean the lever under the lens? if so I thought that may have been the case but I check the manual and it shows the lever at the back, just ignore the manual then ? :)

… or hurt you chin!

Seriously, it is either or…
you mount the plate the wrong way to the head or
the lever stays under the lens.

I once had an old Linhoff like that!

Yeah well I'm going for the under the lens option, it feels weird putting the camera on but it feels secure.

I've sent an email to Gitzo as I'm convinced this can be adjusted, even though I don't know how.

Other than that love the tripod, I was going to buy a Sirui but this ended up being just a little more expensive but felt a lot better build.

Very cool Jason to post picts, thanks!

Another thing, if you release the ball, you may turn the whole rig
around so the ball release is on the spot you want.
