Google+ - does it work for you?

I know there is a thread where people share their G+ account urls but I would love to know who actually uses it and what you get out of it?

Caroline

I've never really understood what it's for tbh... facebook I use to keep people up to date with my work, twitter for networking with other togs and businesses I've done work with or have used... but G+? No idea.

Will keep an eye on this thread as could be quite informative :)

Google drive I believe is part of G+ and that is a cracking little piece of work.

Store things there for access anywhere in the world. Use it for work or play and the settings allow you to grant access to third parties for sharing purposes.

Not sure about the social networking side of it but then again some would argue I'm not that sociable anyway ;(

I've used quite a few photo sharing sites over the years - flickr, pbase, 500px, facebook, deviant art etc etc and I actually prefer the G+ photo interface to any of the others.

It allows you to select which shots get posted to your timeline, whereas with flickr & fb you automatically get all uploads posted.

There are no limits like with the flickr 200 photo limit (they make you pay if you want more)

They support up to 2048 pixels on the long edge (500px only supports up to 900 pixels)

They allow to to download your original file (facebook does not)

They have a decent mobile interface (try using pbase on a mobile device and you will see what I mean)

They have a good "full screen" interface for viewing ("slideshow mode") so that your pic fills the whole screen.

No annoying adds next to your pics like you get on FB

Colby Brown has written a great book about how Google+ is perfectly suited to photographers http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007MQFG0Y

There is a lot about it that needs explaining for me and this book is a great help.

I certainly wouldn't dismiss it as being a waste of time but like all things in social media you need to work them to your advantage. The little that I have done so far has certainly increased the traffic to my website and my Adsense is earning me a few more pennies than previously:) Above all I'm beginning to enjoy the interaction with others.

It seems to be a place for people to rant and rave about technology and ... google itself, and how it compares to Facebook.

It's a bit rubbish. I have an account, and threy some images up, but it's definitely more people pushing their stuff at you than even noticing yours.

I could, but it seems to be all people promoting their stuff. There isn't really a general community. People don't use it the same as they would FB.

There is a simple answer to people "pushing their stuff" at you - UNcircle them!

Most people I circle are photographers who post work I enjoy looking at and commenting on.

G+ is useless IMO, it's deader than a dead thing that's been dead for a jolly long time.
