Yes
Not sure if this has been posted before but a pretty cool app which gives you that Apple Mac style taskbar. Low resources apparently, I've just installed it and it's quite smart - very easy to use and fast! I've got a nice clutter free desktop now (including the windows taskbar!)

Oh yeah, it's free :D

Have fun if it's for you!

Now they just need to make something like that for Nikon users, who wish they bought Canon.

Thanks for the link, but I have a Mac ;)

Me too, and after using it for about an hour I can't get back to Windows quick enough :p

Everyone who's got a PC wishes it was a Mac. :)

Oh and suggesting breaking the EULA is quite amusing from someone who's always so keen to protect their image rights etc ;)

You have to be joking. I recently switched to a Mac and wish I'd done it years ago.

Whereas I bought a Mac mini and within six months had wiped the hard disk and installed Windows. No dual boot, no bootcamp, no OSX. Just Windows. I don't even like Windows that much, but have other machines to run debian.

Crikey! All I wanted to do is point out a nice wee app and I've started the Civil War again!

I quite like this software

There are certainly some people who have PC's that wish they had a Mac. I was one of those people in the late 80's and early 90's. Nowadays the only PC's I have in my house are those that I am fixing for friends.

On the other hand how many Mac users wish they had a PC?

Personally I think people should just use what they wanna use and get on with being productive. There's advantages and disadvantages to both.

It's just preference at the end of the day. A bit like who you find attractive and who you find repulsive.

Juno, I can understand why some people who use a PC today might want to move to a Mac. We're no longer in the dark ages where one operating system is completely estranged from another, pretty much everything is compatible with each other to some degree, and there's no denying that OS X is a nice desktop system. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have gone to lengths to run it on one of my computers, for no other reason than to just have a chance to use it. I have even advised my parents that I think a Mac would be good for them, as they always seem to get hit with spyware/malware and have had credit card problems as a result.

However, it was quite different IMO in pre-OS X times. Classic Mac OS had a lot of problems, as well as Macs back then being notoriously expensive. That's not to say that Windows was any better, but Microsoft had a target market with plenty of buyers, and apart from the education sector, Apple didn't. This is one of the key factors in what caused Apple to almost go bust in the 90s. When Steve Jobs came back, he got the ball rolling on OS X almost straight away, and tried to bury Classic as quick as he could - and for good reason.

I like to think I am as neutral as it gets when it comes to computer systems, personally I prefer Windows, I know it better and can do more with it. For people who are a little less streetwise on the net, not aware of its dangers, a Mac can be the better option to go for, even if they do cost half the inheritance ;)

the users of the 15 macs we've just ditched in favour of dell/windows 7 laptops? ;) dont get me wrong the whole mac vs windows is a pointless argument, they both do a lot of things in the same way, theyre equally as reliable/unreliable etc. however for those users in an office environment where they were trying to work along side other windows users was a complete pain in the arse.

(who never thought this would turn into a mac vs windows thread.. com'on own up..)

Yeah trencheel, I do like the look of OSX myself. I find it a joy to use. I'm competent with Windows, it's currently what I do as a job, I find it refreshing coming home to something different and I get more creative things done. I dabble in electronic music production and have been a Logic user since version 1 and I don't like Cubase so I'm stuck with using a Mac if I want to run the latest version.

My Mum has been using a Mac for around 8 years and it really suits her computer needs, things just work as as she needs them to.

Don't completely agree regarding the Classic OS. You have to compare it to what else was around at the time. When it was introduced it was revolutionary. Okay as most people know nowadays it was based on a lot of the work Xerox did, but Apple did pay for it by selling them shares at a very low price, unlike Microsoft. There were other good platforms like Amiga, Atari ST and Archimedes, that were all better than what MS was offering. All pretty much dead now of course sadly. Microsoft didn't have a decent OS until Windows NT, the other versions were if anything far worse than the original Mac OS. I certainly don't miss the days of multiple extension sets and constant reboots to get things done in MacOS8/9 though!! Yes it could be a nightmare certainly. But it could also be set up quite easily to run well.

If people ask me I always recommend Macs, but I'm happy to build and support PC's for friends if they insist on going that route. I've only known a few people go back to a PC, especially these days when you can run Windows natively or virtually if you wish.

People should just use what they feel comfortable with and get on with it.

I have a classic emulator (2 in fact) and my favourite part is the startup where the jigsaw pieces popped along the bottom of the screen :D

TBH, I'd probably run OSX on my pc rather than win7 if I wasn't an AMD user.

I've integrated Macs into Windows networks before when certain users have insisted on it. There can be drawbacks but most of the time there is a way around, unless the person in charge didn't evaluate the situation properly before authorizing for that particular environment.

Hardware wise, Apple probably has the edge. The OS is probably about the same on both stability wise provided it is configured properly.

Pot, kettle, etc?? :D

it doesnt help when parts of your core back office systems require RDC connections to run on a mac, CS4 on mac is a nightmare, there are incompatibilities between word/excel for windows and mac, meeting invites dont work correctly.. i could go on.

we've just swapped macbooks out for lattitudes and like for like we've had less problems with the dells (graphics cards and screen issues on the macs for starters) and we get better deal on warranty and insurance on the dells too.

but yes OS wise we have just as many support logs from mac users as windows users on a day to day basis.

Pot, kettle, etc?? :D

i only respond to inaccurate comments in these sort of threads.

either way i feel the padlock is coming...

Perhaps not, its a civil debate rather than an out of control wafflefest and it only tends to be the threads that descend into flame wars that get locked on here.

We could all just self moderate and stfu :p :schtum:

Stuff the self-moderate..............

....had to bleedin go to RESTORE to get rid of that crap!

I run vista home premium (sorry for the language !) and having just had to format the hard drive and reinstall everything again I would happily chuck it and get a mac right now.

Vista really is an arse of an OS though.
