Went to the BMFA aeromodeling Nationals at RAF Barkston Heath this weekend. Mainly as my son was flying on the show line and I wanted some photos.
We did expect my lad to win a gong or two so went to the prizegiving to snap the chairman of the BMFA no less handing out the cups. Usually this is done outside in the sun! This year and at the last moment they decided to cram 40 odd people into a small marquee. The lighting was difficult to impossible, the table with the cups was alongside the marquee wall, which was translucient, but not much other light so the ceremony was backlit. My flashgun was two miles away in our caravan.
OK I will do my best when my sons turn comes, if it does.. Chairman announces the first recipient, poses with usual handing over of prize with handshake, AND LOOKS OVER TO ME! It's pretty obvious they thought I must be the official TOG. No-one else even had a camera.
First thought was flight! but I had my family there so had to make an attempt. I still had not sorted out what I was going to do about exposure.
I did get the eight photos required for all the prizes with my onboard flash and they are ok but next time I will be at the back of the crowd.
