Hi folks
I am currently weighing up the options for a new camera, the one i feel would be the perfect fit for me is the Nikon D750 in terms of spec and price if i were to buy from panamoz. From the research i have done so far it seems to tick a lot of boxes in that a reputable importer will honour their warranty should there be a manufacturing defect, however the one statement i keep finding online (but without it seemingly ever being backed up with anything further) is that "some manufacturers threaten to not give firmware updates to those with grey imports". Has anyone any experience with this? Obviously in my case i am looking more specifically at whether nikon generally allow the updates to be used on grey cameras rather than canon etc, but it is the one slight concern i have since i am all too aware that new to market cameras (which the D750 currently is) can often have teething troubles that are ironed out one or two software updates later.
Secondly, as i currently own a d90, and therefore a dx setup, how does the crop mode work on the current fx nikons? I know it effectively crops the sensor in shot at the expense of megapixels but do you still get full use of the zoom range etc on the dx lenses? The reason i ask is on the previous generation of fx cameras (pre-crop mode) you would normally have to zoom in by a certain amount on dx lenses to prevent the vignetting caused by using a dx lens, do you still have to do this despite the crop mode or do you now get the full zoom range? It would be handy for me during the step up to full frame to be able to continue to use at very least my wide angle for the medium term until i can afford a replacement, especially since i only got it a year or so ago and still love the results i get with it (tokina 11-16mm mk2).
If i were to buy grey then i would be looking to buy early next week as that will also give me a few weeks getting used to the new camera before my first wedding next month.
