Hey everyone, ive been looking into going to college to enrol on the city and guilds level 1 course, but ive learnt so much on here and through self teaching that i want to be sure im going to get my moneys worth instead of being taught how to suck eggs, :( so i thought that i would enrol on the borough course which is a similar sylabus but a fraction of the price.

My thing is that i really enjoy learning through other people and pick things up quicker with trial and error so i thought about maybe joining a photography club/group but does anyone know if there is a good one within the Dorset area? Or if there is a better way to go about it? I've been trying to gain experience as a tog assistant but I think thats how everyone attempts it and got lovely responds to my emails although through the busy period i think photographers are up to their eyes with work and having someone to teach would double their work load, plus ive only just finished my blog so didnt attach the link in the former emails, Really just itching to learn now :D Any help???

I've been wonerding which one to join round here also. I got told by Boscombe that they have a 3 year waiting list!! Yeah right.

What's the course you've enrolled on?

Boscombe has a 3 year waiting list? are you kidding me :cuckoo:lol Im going to enrol on the borough of poole tog level 1 course when the dates come out in dec, the criteria on the course looks similar to the college and only just of £60 so i thought what the heck lol :D
have you done any courses etc? im really struggling to find clubs or groups, theres one in lillyput but it looks like its of the older age group ?

Nope, I haven't done any yet. Is that course an evening one? If it is I might join you., cos I've been looking at courses for a while.

All the clubs do seem quite "old", which isn't always a bad thing but it would be good to have a few youngish people around. I might try Parkstone first and see how it goes.

yeh i believe its an evening course, ive got the admin team to email me when the new dates are released, she said it gets booked fairly quickly!! i didnt even know they ran a course until my friend threw me the link :D
Well im going to give them a ring tomorrow and tactfully ask what the dynamics of the group are and go from there, the activities and stuff they do looks pretty good?? have you got a link to the boscombe group? i cant believe they have a 3 year waiting list!! :D

I think there's a load of links to other local clubs on the Parkstone site.

You'l have to PM me with the details of the course. The only other ones that looked any good were the ones at the Bournemouth Art Institute. I think there are 4 different courses that kinda link on from each other. Not cheap though.

Yeh i looked at the arts institute but like you said its alot of money! ideally id like to become a part time assistant/second shooter to another pro tog and learn that way....may be arranging first second shoot with a photographer i met at a wedding show, never hurts to ask ay? lol
