Hand strap recommendation for 7D

I've got an Optech Pro strap for carrying my 7D round my neck/over the shoulder, however find that I tend to carry the camera in my hand a lot so am thinking about buying a hand strap, just to give that extra bit of security.

Can anyone recommend a good one that's a comfy fit - maybe neoprene like the Optech one? Ideally it should also allow for a tripod QR plate to be attached at the same time to avoid faffing around with attaching/detaching each time I want to use my tripod, but if this makes it look cumbersome/pig ugly, then I can do without it!

I've looked at places like Warehouse Express, but could seem to find one. Any other etailers you can recommend?

thanks as always

I have got one of these. It's not neoprene, but was the best thing I could find. I find it pretty comfortable and happily carry around camera with 300/4 fitted for quite a few hours. You don't need to remove it to put on a tripod, but you do need to move the bottom plate to one side when you change the battery.

thanks Sara - my concern around having a plastic/leather support is that it'll be 'sweaty' in hand - do you have any problems with this?

You can pick up a Kenro hand strap for £20, used it for years, very good.

Flamez - I don't have a battery grip, nor am I planning on getting one - does that mean that no hand straps available - surely that can't be right - too much of a market limiter for the manufacturer

BarryG - any ideas where I can get a Kenro one from?

Get one of these - a great bit of kit - very comfortable, and properly adjusted you simply cannot drop the camera even if you try...

It fits any 1 Series body, but for your 7D you'd need the battery grip attached which has the connection for the strap on the base.

Optech do a neoprene wrist strap which has the quick release system that your neck strap might link into.

I use one as I tend to carry the camera in the hand, the link from camera to wrist can get in the way if you have a grip and shoot portrait though.

I use a length of chain. Attached to my camera bag strap, which is over my shoulder at apoint on the strap near my shoulder. The length of the chain is approx arm length and I only have to hold the camera lightly. I can let go and it just hangs by my hand, so I've instantly got both hands free if needed. The chain is also a deterrent against my camera being snatched in the streets. It's not a flimsy chain. I think its original purpose may have been a dog lead perhaps.

If you just want something that'll stop your camera hitting the deck if you drop it then this is a good solution. I've got one on my 7D and it's robust enough so that I could let my 7D with the 100-400 attached drop from my hand many, many times.

jacobs do a hand strap that actually straps to your wrist

it has a tripod fitting so can stay permanently attached and the way it works means you can let go of the camera and it stays attached

I use them with my 1Ds and can kep going for a full 8 hour wedding
