Water's working well ATM actually, but I copped out and had a sachet of resolve too lol. Heading for the bath in a minute then pulling my warm stuff on and going out with my camera, so that should wake me up a fair bit!
The cause of a hangover is dehydration due to alcohol absorbing water from the blood.
Therefore the logical cure is water - gallons of it. Just don't expect an instant fix.
Apparently pure extra virgin olive oil is good for you - it replaces the oils and fats burnt off by the booze the night before (hence the craving for fatty foods the next morning)
dont know if i would be able to stomach it mind you
p.s. i also reccomend any pain killer with paracetamol, cocodamol and caffine in it
I seem to remember from my chemistry lessons at school that the headache is caused by aldehydes. Your body produces aldehydes as a byproduct when it breaks down the alcohol. These aldehydes then concentrate in your brain; they are hygroscopic and absorb water = swelling of brain = headache.
Drinking more alcohol neutralises the aldehydes, releases the water and end of headache.
Don't quote me on that but that's what I seem to remember.
Don't drink Scrumpy? If I get drunk on beer alone I have a raging hangover the next day. If I switch after a few pints to JD and coke or vodka and coke I don't have it anything like as bad. I still feel a bit crap but I don't have the blinding headache.
Having said this I'm currently drinking some Belgian rocket fuel (aka Weissbier), so I'll probably feel like death in the morning.
I try to have a couple of pints of water & some painkillers before I go to bed, usually better for me if I do but I'm usually too p****d to remember to drink it most of the time.
My hangover prevention measures have failed, my head hurts this morning I stuck to vodka (and a few cheeky sambuccas!), drank water when I got in too and still have a hangover
Well I still felt rough when I was getting ready for bed. I'm a bit fluey at the minute so I took some night nurse and that sorted me out within half an hour!
Before going to bed after a night on the lash, drink as much water as you can and be prepared to upchuck it. In the morning, drink a bottle or 2 of the still isotonic Lucozade (or any of the flat sports recovery drinks) and more water. Beware of scrumpy - especially if it's too cloudy to see through!
