I have got my OH a Blu Ray player for christmas and I know I need to get an HDMI cable to go with it - but I don't know which one

They seem to range in price massively - can anyone point me in the right direction please, I fear I'm going to get ripped off at this rate...

just get a solidly made one if you want it to last.

the signal is digital anyway, so you really shouldnt need a massively expensive one, just a mid price one will do.. I wouldnt even spend over a tenner.

HDMI 1.3 Any ole cable will do.

this.

one with decently built connectors is probably an ok idea, but yeah, whatever you do don't spend more than a tenner on it. A tescos £2.99 will do fine, but maybe a slightly more expensive one if you'll be plugging it in and out quite often.

gadget show did a review on these last year sometime, they tested a cheapo cable against an overpriced monster cable (£100 plus!) and they couldnt tell the difference between the two. I enjoyed pointing that out in currys a couple of days later when they were trying to sell me an overpriced one!

I pick up 2 from Amazon for around £1.68 (free postage) and they arrived within 2 days.

Also remember that they come in two sizes, the one for a Nikon D300 will not fit the D700.
My Xbox is different again and my HD DVD only takes the standard version.
I am sure this is to get more money from you, I need an adapter at £9.00

I got a short one for a couple of quid and a 10m one for about £10 - they both work fine, don't worry about paying loads for them - check out Amazon with free delivery

Thanks all - I saw a few for about £10 in HMV / Gamestation today so I'll probably go for one of those. Another stupid question - if it says it's compatible for X-Box & PS3 will that still be ok for a Blu Ray player too?

5m hdmi gold plated just cost me £4.49 from here

nice cable i have to admit.

Little info from my retail years. a well known cable company used to do demo of cheap vs there ££££££££ cables, they reduced the image quality/signal on the cheap one to do the comparison so they sold but in real world there wasn't a visible difference. may not be the case now as i ain't in retail any more.

It's a digital cable! It will either pass the information or not hence not being able to tell the difference between a £3 cable and a £100 cable. I once had a hi-fi containing a Xerxes turntable, £800 speakers and a £500 amp. I spent £120 on the cable but you COULD tell the difference (it was analogue).

as people have said pay more for a cable that's solidly built rather than lots for a gold plated one

it's digital so yeah the 1/0's get there or they don't

it's like selling someone a gold optical cable :/ utter tosh :)

£5 cables are fine unless you are exceeding a 5m run and will probably be OK up to 10m.

Don't buy any kind of cable from Currys ever. They had 2m cat5 network cables for £30 when I looked the other day!

Dont buy monster connectors. Ever.

I bought a £30 cable for my PS3 to 42" plasma. Cant remember the make but came highly recomended over cables twice the price. Gave me less noise and better colours over my £2.99 argos version. You pays your money you take your chances.

EDIT: Think it might have been a Pure AV cable.

Thanks for the input everyone - I went for a £15 one they had in Gamestation. Probably could have gone cheaper but it was there... I was there... and I have now completed my christmas shopping so I'm happy :)
