The warnings the Met Office are giving sound pretty grim. The forecast for here in Gloucester today, was 31ºC but at 4.00pm my weather monitor showed 33.1ºC.The remote is in the side passage so in the shade. We are forecast to have 33ºC tomorrow, 34ºC Wednesday and 35ºC on Thursday dropping back to 29ºC on Friday. The BBC forecaster on News24 said heat like this would likely buckle railway lines. In parts of Europe 40ºC is forecast. That's 104ºF in old money.Forecasters say some locations here may well hit that 40ºC. The highest temperature recorded in the UK was 40.3ºC in Coningsby, Lincs. in 2022.
They have issued a red alert for.
"Southern Wales, as far west as Swansea, and an area of England that includes London and runs from the inland areas of Kent across to Somerset, as far north-west as Birmingham, and as far north-east as southern Cambridgeshire.
