Ok so my sister phoned up the other day (you know whats coming already dont you!), yes shes getting married in 6 months and wants me to photograph it. Its only a small wedding at a registry office then on to the reception. There will only be 20-30 people there.
I am very much an amateur so suggested that she should get a professional as I could cock up and she could end up with nothing. But they are on a budget and the money could be used elsewhere. She said she will also be getting our mum to take some (Canon G7) and her fiancés brother so they should at least have some if I mess it up.
So i agreed that i would do it in the end, but not to expect anything fantastic and explained something could go wrong!
My equipment is very limited, i currently have a Canon 350D, 17-85mm 4-5.6IS, 50mm 1.8 and a tripod.
I have no flash, or any experience of flashes but im guessing if i buy anything for this wedding that a flash would be my best bet. Im looking at more of your budget flashes such as a Canon Speedlite 270EX, Sigma 530 DG ST, Metz 48 AF-1 and Sunpak PZ42X.
Which one of these would be the best option? Ive had a look but cant find many reviews on flashes. Any one have any comparisons of these? Is the best flash just the brightest/furthest one, or is there more to it than that?
I guess i will also have to buy an extra battery and another memory card, how much space would you recommend?
Ok so if i have this equipment are there any tips you guys can give me? Ive had a read through some wedding threads and they suggest checking the place out first. This isnt possible for me as i live in Newcastle and she lives in London.
Would you bother taking the tripod? Which lens would you go for during the ceremony? If its a bit dull inside the 17-85 is a probably a bit slow, would you use the nifty fifty or try and set the tripod and 17-85 up? The 350D is a bit noisy when you bump the ISO up too, so Id rather not do that.
Anyone been to Westminster registry office before? What is the lighting like? Should i just shoot in AV priority most the time?
Any other pointers would be useful (apart from the usual get a pro, etc etc)
Cheers
