Help! - D40 USB Port Broken!

I bought my brand new Nikon D40 around 8 months ago from an Amazon shop. I've used it frequently but have always taken good care of it. Unfortuanetly I managed to drop the camera the other day whilst uploading from a shoot I did and this bent the USB port of the camera. Now, whenever I insert the cable it never successfully connects to my pc and I am able to move the cable around whilst it is connected, something I couldn't do before.

What are my options? Does Nikon offer warranty on items? Or does Amazon perhaps? I need some expert advice on what to do here, and any would be greatly appreciated!

Thankyou!

You are not going to get warranty on a dropped item. Thats for manufacture defects, not abuse through clumsiness. I'm not clear why you expect Nikon or Amazon to pick up the tab here?

Why not just buy an SD Card reader? Its faster than using a USB connection to the camera anyway.

It wasn't a particularly high drop, and I was surprised that it had this effect on the camera. I only wanted to see what my options where, not to spark some sort of feud. I have looked into buying a reader and now after your comment, it is apparent that this is possibly my only option.

Would it be possible to get something like this repaired?

Im not sure on this one, im sure someone will be along to give you a good answer. If its repairable I think you will have to pay, hopefully its not toomuch.

Not sure if you can give Nikon a ring - they maybe able to offer some advice, could always give a camera repair shop a bell to see if they can repair it?

If it's going to be an expensive repair, one other option is to buy a card reader, so you don't need to worry about connecting the cable up ?

Good luck, hope it doesn't cost too much to fix (y)

hi snoop just dont see why you need to get it repaired ,especialy if its going to cost big bucks .using your camera to download takes quite a toll on your battery as well ,so just use a card reder and save yourself the hassle.(y)

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna buy a card reader but still check out prices for repairing.
