Yes
I am looking to buy a flash as a gift for someone who is using an Olympus Pen epl-1. I don't know much about Olympus compatibility/features so forgive the daft question.
I want something that:
- works on-camera
- has an 'auto' mode of some sort - will speak to the camera and adjust brightness as required without manual input.
- tilts up and down. Preferably swivels too, though this is not essential
- is less than about £100

Would either of these work?

If no, any recommendations?

Both of the Amazon linked flashes tilt but not swivel. I don't think there is any M43 flash from Olympus/Panasonic/Metz/Nissin that will tilt and swivel and cost under £100 new. I have 2 Metz AF 48 flashes and the smaller Olympus FL36R, all bought secondhand for well under £100 new. The Metz 48 flashes are really good but would be too big and heavy to sensibly use on a E-PL1, I use them on my GH3 or for off camera flash in slave mode. I use the FL36R on my E-PM1, this is a good match in terms of size and weight. The penalty is a slower recharge as it has only 2 batteries. Even smaller is the venerable Olympus FL20 flash which will work on any Olympus M4/3 body (but not Panasonic) but it does not tilt or swivel. Paid about £20 for mine.
