New to iMac and using the search facility in Finder to pull out all the black and white filenames I have somehow managed to retain the black and white files but deleted all the colour ones Grrrrr!

Anyone know how I can attempt to bring them back (I've not touched the HDD since so hoping they might be recoverable somehow... it's a WD NAS drive). Any help would be appreciated. :(

Ok, I give up... nothing appears to be able to recover the NAS drive, just the C: drive. After taking from the backup there is only about 10-12 images to redo off the NEFs so could be worse.

No tried looking from other PCs on the network, they were def gone

Still, never mind I've now got back to where I was last night... in fact I spent longer trying to fix it than actually re-editing the NEFs

Give me a few more days to get used to Finder and I'll be ok I think. I must say though, I love CS5 on the Mac, coming from CS3 on the PC.

I appreciate it's a different system, but I managed to recover all RAW and JPEG files (and everything else) off a hard drive with a deleted partition table using a utility called testdisk, which runs under linux. I haven't researched it, but there may be a mac equivalent.

Too simply to think you just sent them to trash, and have not yet emptied the trash can, so you can just put back

Oh the joy of having Time Machine backup your photo collection drive as well ;)

on the advice here, I downloaded Karen's Replicator

works well - updates an external HHD every 24 hours [or whenever]

Thanks everyone

As soon as I've finished the pre-Christmas orders I'll get myself all sorted out again with a proper backup plan. It was all 3 way backed up before I introduced the Mac, but I'll get there over the coming days.
