Hello everyone, I have got myself in a pickle over what to choose, I thought a Nikon D90 would have suited me but Nikon are sending me the voucher to get a free SB900 flash if I buy a D300s (which I can just about afford). I have handled both cameras and like them, the D300s is really nice but I am concerned about it's weight. I'll be using it with a Sigma 18-50 and it will weigh in about 1.5KG. I tend to walk around with the camera on my neck and worried I'll get sick of carrying that weight, how do others find it?

I have also briefly considered a Canon 50d and a Pentax K-7 as they are lighter but I'm not sure they areas good at high ISO. I will be using it for landscapes, architecture, portraits and also want it to be good for low light photography. Any advice please?

The weight has never bothered me before. The Canon 50D is very good at high ISO, not as good as the 40D but still very good. If you have the money go for the D300s. The weight issue just depends on your lens, and the Sigma 18-50 doesnt weight that much. It shouldnt bother you about the weight unless you get a 200mm+ lens.

The 50D might be 15mp but the detail contained in the 10 million pixels of the 40D better. It's a cheaper camera to buy too.

Thanks for the replies folks, anyone else got any thoughts on the weight of the D300s?

Would recommend the 40d, great camera! And cheaper than the 50d, so you will have some pennies left for some glass.

Makes sense

SB900 is very tempting, and D300s is a great camera.

I wouldn't worry much about a few extra grams until you get 70-200mm f/2.8, use it with flash and have 300mm f/2.8 in the bag on your shoulders.

Otherwise you may as well think about Leica M9.

Whatever camera you buy take a look at this strap.

It seems expensive but it really does work. I bought one for my wife as she has a long-standing neck injury and she found it made an amazing difference. I, too, was so impressed that I immediately bought one for myself. I can now carry my E-3 around my neck in comfort for far longer than I ever could before. :)
