help me choose a MF film camera

Also: when you buy well used bodies is there not too much risk that they would need some repairs very soon?

Thank you! I am not that patient. I will search couple weeks, I think, and buy the best i can find. could also be mamiya rz67 with 110mm lens, 6x7 seems handy and bellows are a good feature. price is a bit lower as well.
Wanted to ask you about printing. 6x6 does not seem to be well supported paper and frame wise. do you crop?

-Yeah, a few weeks is about as long as I searched too (seems like years if you want the things your looking at so bad:lol:!)

Personally I don't like 6x7 (i really like the square in mf, 6x7 just seems odd to me:thinking: -personal taste though.

as for printing et al, I don't crop, and I don't have an issue with printing or developing (do it myself!) but i have noticed that you do get a *tiny* larger ammount of places that develop and print 120 square format. BUT! almost all the places that do this, also do 6x7 so no issue.

paper isn't a problem either! you don't need square paper to print square images:D

that risk IS larger, but if you where to buy from a proper reputable dealer (such as ffordes et al) or from a site like this! then it shouldn't be too much of a problem. ebay on the other hand is like playing russian roulette. there are good sellers out there, and ones that lie, so you don't know what your getting until it turns up on your doorstep.

I worked out that both the hassy's i bought of ebay were between 30 and 40 years old  they work fine however, no light leeks, no gungy rubber etc... I am considering a CLA soon however.

one final point to this essay-of-a-post is that the lens sounds nice, and its a good inbetweener a portrait and general use lens, i would suggest getting a wider lens (around 70 to 90mm?) its less restrictive!

Nikontos - I used an RZ67 for years for weddings and portraits as well as for commercial location stuff. Handholding it is NOT a problem in normal light. It is slightly better in my mind than the RB too, in that the one stroke recocking and wind on becomes second nature. I would think 2 miinutes with one now and I would be back on song.

For portriats, you can swing the back round and just leave it there and use a waist level finder (it will spot meter through the waist finder and is totally accurate) the prism has an evaluative meter in it which, for something like 30 years ago, is virtually unfoolable. You can, but only with scenes that you immediately know will be too much for it, so you simply change your angle of metering view to suit and set it manually.

The focussing rack with the 110 for portraits is fine for head and shoulders shots, but closer and it is racked out a bit and takes a bit of getting used to. Get the 140mm as well - it is a stunning portrait lens. Price wise you should be able to find one in your budget. Reliability? No issues. Mine ran for 20 years without a hitch.

Hi, I would like to add update to my quest. I have recently received Rolleiflex 3.5 E with Zeiss Plannar lens. It is in a very good condition, only the slow speeds are slower than should be. I paid £360 for it. Do you reckon it a good price? I bought it from an online shop with a couple months warranty. Then I have also acquired Mamiya RZ67 ProII with everything but lens. I have to sell the 220 filmback it came with and buy 120 back. I guess I will buy 110mm lens, but could buy another one if I find it cheap. Thank you all for help in choosing!
