Help - Nikon / Sigma dramas.....

The camera shouldn't be putting out anywhere close to enough voltage to cause stuff to melt.. you've obvious had some sort of short circuit here... even so this is surprising..

Unfortunately that's the problem with mixing and matching brands - if it had been a Nikon lens that had caused the problem you'd have a good case for them to foot the bill. As it is I'd imagine Nikon will blame Sigma and Sigma will blame Nikon.

Might be worth getting an independent camera repairer like Fixation to look at both items to determine which caused the problem and once you have it in writing tackling the culprit company. Alternatively return the lens and the camera back to their respective suppliers and see what they have to say...

Bad contacts arc even at small voltages, arcing creates heat which makes the connection worse and the arcing worse....until something gives.

I don't see why you can't send both off to their respective manufacturers and be economical with information.

Sigma - Well it just stopped af-ing
Nikon - This body is faulty, non of my lenses will AF on it any more.
