:help::help: My LCD on my 5D2 has stopped working and I don't know why.

I was using it a couple of days ago in Live view with no problem. I went to use the camera yesterday and the whole LCD has stopped working. I can not access any of the menu's, live view or previewing pictures.

It still takes pics OK. I have switched on and off, taken battery out for hours yesterday and recharged it. Popped it back in this morning and no change.

Is there some kind of reset button? Is there something I can do without having to use the menus, which I can not see?

As well as the main battery you should try also removing the "watch" battery that provides power to preserve date and time settings, and leave both batteries out for a short while. Other than that all the "resetting" features are accessible only through the menu system, which if course you can't navigate through.

The date/time battery is on the left hand side of the camera, beneath the connection sockets. See page 217 of the manual.

Of course, removing both batteries will also lose the date/time settings, and you may prefer to carry on shooting, for now, with the correct date/time embedded in your EXIF. Perhaps you should give Canon a call and see what they say.

If I remove the 'watch' battery, then am I right in assuming that I can reset the time and date through the menu setting? (Assuming that sorts the problem and I can access the menu).

Do you think that may reset and get the LCD up and running again?

I think it's more likely that it's going on a trip to Canon for repair.

If the screen does nothing it sounds like it's died. Mine had a new screen because of a missing row of pixels. Thankfully done under warrenty.

It may be that you left live view activated - and it overheated causing it to trip... Not sure what the cure is - but I think a call to Canon is required....

I remember reading that you shouldn't use live view for too long as it can overheat things...

maybe it might

you will need to reset the clocks but I do that with eos utility to sync it to the lappy, then sync my other body to the lappy so they show up in the right order in LR

In all honesty, probably not, but it's a long shot worth taking if the only other alternative is to take/send it to Canon. You don't really have much to lose by trying it (other than your date/time settings). If you can get the LCD up and running again then you will be prompted to input the date and time as though the camera was fresh out of the box.

Could you access the menus by using the TV output? see if resetting anything there helps.

Taken out the memory battery - No difference. Good idea Sean, but it's not right, so needs to be fixed.

Mmm, lets see how good the Spanish arm of CPS is!!
