Help please - problems with scripts on ie6 on my site

I need some help on the website www.villabegur.com

I have several small scripts running on it, one for the slideshow, one for photos (slimbox) and have just added a addtoany "share this" button.

The site used to occasionally fail to load on ie6 giving the error

"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://www.villabegur.com Operation aborted"

I have never managed to stop that happening but reloading the browser would work.

Since I added the addtoany button the page never loads on ie6. Unfortunately ie6 is the browser they have in my office so I assume many others have yet to upgrade and also use that piece of rubbish browser.

The site works fine on every other browser I have tried.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I am anything but a script expert and more of a cut and paste man!

Thanks very much.

youre sure the app/scripting is IE6 compatible?

I think so, I think it is a well known problem with ie6 and it is to do with where the scripts are placed within the HTML. However when I try to get my head around it my head explodes.

According to w3schools only 9.6% of users use ie6, and coming down fast. Your office should upgrade to the latest release of ie or even better to firefox.

It's a fair point but I would like as many people to be able to view the site

Hi Pete,

O.K There is a similar prob here:- http://forum.yola.com/yola/topics/my_website_doesnt_work_in_internet_explorer_7 - Which suggests is due to the follow me Twitter....

Now I did a little test and loaded the "Panorama page directly" e.g. type in http://www.villabegur.com/Panoramas/index.html - straight into your browser and you will see that it loads O.K. in IE6.

The site loads O.K in Firefox/Mozilla, so I think there maybe a similar issue with your "facebook" add in on the homepage, similar to the "Twitter" prob above. - Just a hunch.

My suggestion is remove it and try it out. Best of Luck.

Thanks for that. I was hoping to be able to keep the buttons and somebody might be able to tell me where to put the code to make it work.

Pete,

Well I think the buttons are o.k - they are on other pages in your site (Top of Panorama Page). I think it's just the full banner type one (Live Stream) with the picture in it that is causing the problem.

Perhaps, just put an inset there with JUST the "buttons" above it in a little table.
