Hey folks,

Not seen this posted yet and feel free to move if its in the wrong section but just saw this project and thought it could be a great thing to be involved in.

Details are here: http://www.help-portrait.com/

But in short its a call to be apart of something that could be huge, 12th December, grab your camera and take a picture of someone in need and when the prints are ready, deliver them - its a chance to give someone a portrait who's never even dreamed of having their picture taken. (paraphrased from the video)

I'm going to try to set something up in Nottingham so if anyone around here's willing to be involved shout up, if anyone else is planning on anything I'd love to hear what you're planning.

Hmm, I have watched the video on the site and...

not meaning to sound negative, but, what would a homeless person do with a portrait?

The video also points you towards the website for more info, the website only houses the video and then points you to facebook and twitter.

Other than that, I am not sure what I think about this...

I saw this the other day, linked to from Chase Jarvis I think...and I too thought the same thing.
I don't think I 'got' the idea though. Ithink its more underpriveleged people who may want, say, a family portrait but can't afford one?

I don't know. I only watched the video briefly and then mentioned my confusion on IRC, so I think I need to look into it a little more. :)

yeah, I am going to come back tomorrow and watch it again, see if I get it.

Far too tired to use my brain right now :)

I agree, not sure what a homeless person would do with or why they would want a portrait but I think thats missing the point slightly...

For one I think the phrase person in need is a bit misleading, it needs a bit of thinking outside the box - what about kids on a terminal ward, grandparents stuck in nursing homes?

And its less about the photography and more about just connecting with people, learning their story and hopefully leaving an impression on their lives.

I feel like I run the risk of going off into some idealistic rant here so going to stop there.... :)

That makes much more sense Sparks, and I kinda figured that's what it was about :)

Interesting concept and thought process.
Their facebook page shows this was created originally for last year but only has 2 photos on it, so what happened?

I have absolutely no idea!

I don't have anything to do with the project other than I came across it last night and it struck a chord with me!

Interesting to hear about the facebook page, I'll go and check it out - can only assume they tried it last year but it fell flat on its face...
