hi there, i need to know how to set a canon 400D on a self timer so i can take long exposures without a remote release.

Thanks,

Dion!

press the button on the back of the camera that toggles between single shot / drive mode and remote

you can set the time value down - i think the default might be 10 seconds but this reduced to 2 secs if you use mirror lock enabled - which you should...

cheers

Hmmm.......just trying to figure out what setting the 2 or 10 second self timer has to do with taking long exposures without the use of a remote release................. or is it just me?

 Just means you don't have to wait as long for it to take the picture.

I think you might be missing my point  The point I was trying to make was what has the self timer got to do with long exposures? The self timer simply delays the operation of the shutter and is absolutely nothing to do with the exposure time, which is what the original poster asked about.

You set the timer so you're not touching the camera when you start the exposure. Thus reducing camera shake. The OP was asking how to set the timer, I imagine for this reason.

I do realise that. I've obviously interpreted the OP question differently to others.
