He knows i have no idea what i'm doing, i just have the best camera amongst us...it's just a favour not a paid job..What do i need to know?:help::help:

Thankyou, Matt

Edit. I have the 1100d with kit lens and am hoping my nifty fifty will arrive soon. i'm assuming this would be the lens to use out of the two i have?

It would help if you told us what type of club, indoor/outdoor, number of people and what the images are going to be used for. It could be a football club training on an open air pitch or a dartsclub indoors at night with dodgy lighting. Are people wanting printed images or are they going in a newletter/news paper?

yeah sorry i was so unspecific..its a 12 hour mansion party with famous and not so famous djs. There will be a big room and a chillout room with both with projected visuals etc. The images are purely to document the event for ourselves really and maybe for promotional purposes for future events. My friend has managed to organise something really good and its only our second event. There will be around 300/400 people

Have a look at this thread...and there are probably others if you have a search.

Thanks, sorry i'm new here and have only just found a search function

Thanks to both of you for your replies :D

Your 18-55 kit lens will be fine

Hard to predict the settings as I've no idea what the light will be like, but when I used to work in a club doing this sort of thing for a short while, I tended to shoot my 400D at roughly

1/10th
f5.6
ISO 1600
with flash

You'll probably be within the 18-30mm for most shots.

Flash is absolutely essential - whether it be pop up flash (NOT ideal) or a proper TTL flash gun

That's interesting. Although I have very little experience in this area (low-light indoor photography is something I would like to master) I would have thought that with that slow shutter speed and ISO you'd have problems with noise and shake/motion, no?
