Yes
I am sure I didn't do it up that tight, but my Jessops UV filter appears to have welded itself onto my G1 14-45 lens :(

Any ideas how to get it loose without ending up with a broken lens ?

And yes - I am unscrewing it the right way ;)

Try very lightly tapping the rim of the UV filter. I find that this works.

Put it in the fridge for a while then try again with a dishcloth over the filter...

happened to me a couple of weeks ago when I was using a reversing ring - I put it out in the hallway in the cold for a while and she came off easily.

:agree: I've heard of doing it this way before & it has worked....

Can I come and put my camera in your hallway then, please ?

Cheers - will try and find somewhere cool for a while - the wine cellar should do it
(Shame there's no wine in it though :bang: )

EDIT - assume it's best to remove the lens from the body and just put that in the fridge ?

Daniel.

Might be a good idea...they're tested in arctic conditions so it won't hurt, but you might get some condensation forming inside if it's warm and steamy in the house...

That applies to the lens as well BTW...

Squeezing the filter - which is a natural thing to do as you try to unscrew it - may be why you can't get it off. I found that with my old Sigma 10-20 and Circular Polarizer, even if I screwed it in very loosely, gripping it tightly would force it not to move. All I needed to do was gently grip it and it came off fine - have you tried being a little lighter with your hands?

I also find placing the lens filter flat in your palm then gripping the lens body and twisting, whilst pushing into the palm to be a good way of getting filters off.

Matt

All good suggestions. You can get filter wrenches too which help distribute the force around the filter rather than squeezing it which makes things worse as pointed out.

All sorted :D

The fridge did the trick... now I need for it to warm back up before I put it back on (loosely).

Cheers,
Daniel.
