Hi
I've recently done a shoot for a model, as a favour and at no cost other than the studio booking rate. His manager wanted photographs to promote him on his (manager's own) website.
I watermarked the photographs as it would go onto a website. I've signed a model release form with the model however, his manager now wants me to remove my watermark from the photo in order to print flyers and/or posters for an event to promote the model. I told him that I am not removing the watermark, but that I could probably just make it smaller i.e less visible by putting it in the corner etc. but that he would have to sign agreement too that this would be used as once off for the event and the watermark should remain in place. He doesn't want to pay a fee for anything and calls it "free advertising" for me?
What should I do? What grounds do I have and what should my agreement state to make it clear that the images/flyers are only to be used for this specific event as a once off?
PS: May I just add that he also wants me to design the flyer myself, at no cost! (Obviously I won't do it for free, and obviously I will not handover or sell the copyright to my work - but not sure how to deal with this as this is the first time I received such request?)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

First and foremost, remain polite, but remain firm.

They are your photographs and, as such, it is entirely up to you as to who uses them and in what way. Similarly, you decide how much they will pay to use them should they wish to.

Just because he doesn't want to pay and thinks it is free advertising for you doesn't mean you have to agree.

Decide what you want in terms of payment, and draw up an agreement that clearly states what you give permission for the image to used on (and where), and the price for that usage.

If he doesn't want to sign it and pay the fee, then he doesn't get to use the images :D

ETA: Welcome to TP

Who supplied this and what did it say?

you have a signed release from the model
tough titty on the manager how much would he have paid to get them normally
So stick with it
do not give in there is nothing free
he will be getting money from prospectve clients using your pictures

Thank you all so much for all your advice!
I've remained firm and polite however, I am getting it from all sides now from the manager and the model however, I'm not giving in on giving up my rights - at least not for free! Guess that is a lesson learnt from doing favours in business!
I apologise that I cannot quote and respond to each and everyone of you for your helpful advice, as this was the first time I've ever posted in a forum and still trying to figure out how it works! ha ha
And fixedimage, I created the Model Release form myself from examples I found online - but it clearly states that my watermark are to remain in place, not to be removed and that the images are not allowed to changed in anyway without my consent, where it can and cannot be used etc.

;)
