Help with my new website please! :)

keeping it simple works, i would test the scipt font on the front page on different computers. i dont think the subject on the home page is suitable
someting more cheerful would be more suitable, if these are your pets you could have a page for this image and text. on the front page
i would put a flash anim or something like that showing some different types of photography eg portrait, animals and weddings for example.

i have noticed that the font on your page tabs is not a clean font , Maybe use arial , arial bold

just keep up your goodwork, the rest of the site colour.layout and navigation works well is great.

Nice site and its very clear what area of photography you specialise in. I have a few comments though

1) The homepage - I like the image you have chosen as it has the 'cute' factor and sets the tone for the rest of your site and what your all about etc. However, I think I'd remove the text below. As Steve pointed out in his post, its not the most cheerful start to a website, and maybe a separate page for it would be better. I'd also have some kind of flash animation/slideshow of your images to make make your homepage stand out a bit more.

2) Photoshoot Prices & Print Prices - when I clicked on the photoshoot prices I was expecting to see just that; photoshoot prices. Instead you have listed the prices for your various print sizes, which can also be found on your Print Prices page. Although you do state that prices are tailored to individual needs and to contact you for further info, I think it kind of gets lost by the Prints info just below. I think you could combine both pages into one and separate them by using a title or something?

3) Formatting - I'm using IE7 on my work PC and when the pages load they are all a little off-centre meaning that I have to scroll to the right to see all of tthe last tab, plus your name and the ends of you sentences etc. Except for your homepage, all the other pages have huge expanses of empty black space under the content.

I hope you find these comments useful...I am not a website expert by any stretch of the imagination!

here is some simple guidlines i use

you should get the site checked on different browsers.

i also try to make it fit the the smallist practicable screen size
currently i set them up for 1024 wide this fits on to most screens
it may look ok on your screen (i use a 24") but not on the viewers screen

try to keep scrolling to a minimum

Cheers Steve

Hi thanks for all of your comments they are really helpful.

I think I will change the homepage to a slideshow to show more of the images.

The portrait prices page is not quite finished yet :( meant to be having prices for a portrait of a person/family and then a separate price for animals.

I will look to change the resolution as well to try and get it to work with different browsers!!

Thank you all :)

Nice simple and straightfoward idea. my screen resolution is 1280x1024 on a old Samsung Syncmaster 710n monitor, using Firefox 3.6, IE8, Safari on a Windows 7 computer three quarters of the login button is missing with no option to scroll sideways, perhaps the contents contained in a wrapper too small? I don't know but it needs fixing.

Agree with others on the prices and photoshoot prices, pointless having two pages doing the same job, maybe removing one will bring the login button into view.

The photo gallery, as you have already said maybe making it into a slideshow or at the very least make it idiot proof by showing noobs and casual visitors to the site how to advance to the next pic. I like to use my wife for that, she knows absolutely nowt about galleries, if she can find her way through it then I know it works  I will deny ever saying that:naughty:

Personally I'd like to see a different colour scheme used on your email dialogue that opens on your Contact Us link similarly matching colours with the rest of the site, perhaps the same for your blog page.
